If one Vomits while treating with Antibiotics due to food poisoning or anything else...... ?????

Is it best to...
drink some water,
drink some tea,
drink some milk,
drink some kefir,
eat a piece of bread,
take some medicine, (if so, which?)
try to walk it off,
sit in a chair,
lay down on stomach,
lay on your back,
or do nothing and just wait it out and let it all out ???

[confused]

Hi Eric,

I don't know what kind of meds you're on, but I've thrown up 2 times now, and I'm sure it's from taking doxycycline on a relatively empty stomach both times. In both cases, I was in a hurry to take my meds and forgot about having some food in my stomach.

If you still feel queasy, I'd have some tea or water and toast or soda crackers and hold the next dose. If you don't feel too queasy, then I'd take the next dose as scheduled. This just happened to me yesterday.

The first time, I held off on the next dose, but yesterday, I felt well enough when the next dose was due to take it, and I tolerated it fine. You just have to listen to your body.

My daughter vomits at least 5x daily, her GI system has been greatly affected by this disease, its best to lay back and rest, if possible for a few hours, than begin to introduce light liquids-- tiny sips, of broth or warm tea, etc.

It is very important to be on probiotics while taking antbiotics, but I don't know how much this will help you with nausea/vomiting? My daughter takes IV Phenergan, which is very helpful, there are oral anti-nausea meds too.

You should also consult your doctor about your food poisoning... Feel better.

My advise.. and I am not a doctor...

NEVER take meds on an empty stomach.

And the one thing I've found to help get me back on track is a children's dose of Mylanta (or Pepto Bismal).

Take it in between the doses of antibiotics.. and only one dose a day... and one the next if needed.

Be sure to drink water too, as the directions state to do.

This is ONLY to be done on a rare occasion. Just to get your tummy feeling not so acid and burning and nasty.

That is what I do if needed.

It is best to talk to your doctor.

Please, if this is food poisoning, get tested. In some cases, it can be fatal if not treated - or cause kidney damage.

Specific meds are needed, depending on the type of food poisoning. Your current meds may not cover it - or they could be the cause of the problem if it's not food poisoning.

Be very kind to your stomach. Very kind. I'd stick with broth or plain yogurt. Maybe oatmeal. Rice protein powder.

I do hope you can call your doctor in the morning or go to urgent care - or even the ER - tonight. This is the second night of it, from what I gather.

Good luck.

hi keebler,

i believe it is from food poisoning must of eaten something bad,
or maybe just too many pills of all kinds at once as i have never been on so many meds before,
and stress does not help either im sure...

as far as calling my doc on sunday,
i doubt he would be opened as its a clinic for tic borne diseases and i believe they have set hours like m - f, and maybe sat.

as far as going to emergency room, the vomiting has stopped,
and i drank a little kefir and now some tea followed by some hopeful rest...

will skip my dose of Ceftin for tonight.

i appreciate your thoughts and help.

and everyone else ofcourse who made the time and effort to help.

best regards,
eric

I threw up on an empty stomach a few times when i was on Tetracycline--- that was the week i ran out of B-50's!

When my LLMD heard of the vomiting, he told me to take only a half-dose--- but i bought some more B-50's and went right back on high-dose Tetracycline--- no problem.

Your liver needs extra B-50's it seems, as well as Milk Thistle, which i always took plenty of.

When i was on Doxycycline, always empty stomach except for a cracker in an emergency, the first time i threw up the whole thing. My LLMD asked if it was capsules--- yes; so he prescribed tablets instead. He says capsules especially cause vomiting.

I would walk, pace, with arms in the air at 20-min after pill through 45 min after pill ; it seemed to help.
