Help! I ordered the Lyme Dot Blot and PCR urine test from Igenex, but now I'm wondering if this is the best test? It calls for a course of antibiotics to be taken, and then on specific days you collect urine.
I am asking my neuro to sign off on the test this Friday, so please let me know ASAP if I've ordered the wrong test.
I had one reactive band on the Western Blot via Quest Lab back in 1994.

My LLMD recommends the basic IgM and IgG.
I believe they are tests 188 and 189 respectively.
I only had one band positive via Quest last October.
However, as it was a Lyme specific band (IgM 23) and I had tons of symptoms,
My local duck went ahead and diagnosed me.
I never had an Igenex test done, although I had my husband and children tested via Igenex.
Didn't know about that lab until after I had been tested and found this site.
Is your doctor a LLMD?
May want to find one soon.

Absolutely the best choice.
If either of the two tests you mentioned comes back negative, you won't know much. You won't know if you have any Lyme specific bands which could indicate Lyme.
You'd be back to square one.

Ugh. I'm so confused. My mom tested neg on the tests you mentioned and finally received a positive dx using the urine test with a course of antibiotics. Guess I have a decision to make.

No, do not have LLMD yet. I'm in Texas and was referred to Dr. F in Louisiana. Have not called him yet. Part of it is I'm scared to know for sure, though I've had years of problems that they now call fibro.

Welcome "fibro" patient from Texas. Have you read my story below??
Dr F will want the 188 and 189, I'm sure. Can you afford the Lyme Dot and the 188-89?? If not, skip the Dot!

So sorry you are facing this confusing situation.
Might say you are putting the horse before the cart here. Or the cart before the horse?
Well darn it all. Now I'm confused! One of them two things is what I mean!
Anyhow... Might I suggest?
You pay for a LLMD because they are the best at what they do and with that they know the best tests to run.. as that is what they do day in and day out. They base what tests they run do for each patient on many factors.. each person is different.
So why bother now doing tests yourself and spend money on tests that.... IF your neuro will even order them .. a BIG if... they probably can't understand the results anyway... and they won't treat properly?
Chances are .. depending on your history and symptoms.. a LLMD would order more tests to check for coinfections and other things anyway.
Then you'd have to go through testing all over again. Plus.. since you will be (or you are) on antibiotics for the urine test... it is possible that you've made it difficult ... if not impossible right now to get a positive blood test.
My suggestion is to get a LLMD appointment and let them do the thinking for you. As you go through the process.. you can more details.
I know what being afraid is too. But it is time to make the leap... get some answers.. and work on what the root of your problems are. NOT doing it isn't an option and can have a negative effect.
Getting checked out and having answers is the only way you will find some peace and be able to best deal with what is ahead of you.
And here... at Lyme Net... you have friends who understand and who want to help you.
And we care.
And never under estimate the caring a mother has for her child. True, they CAN be annoying at times, I know. But it is because they love you so much.
Listen to you mother, cher'... and know I wish mine were here helping me right now. I'd give anything to have her annoy me just one more time.
