I am confused. Both of my daughters have tested positive for Bb by IGeneX but we live in Texas and many believe we don't have Bb here, we have the STARI strain if anything.
In an article entitled "STARI -The Other Lyme Disease" posted by Tincup it states that: "... the IGeneX tests are broad enough to be able to detect various Borelia strains across the US, rather than just one strain. IGeneX tests are sensitive to the lonestari variety of Borrelia , as well as burgdorferi,..."
A California Dr diagnosed my oldest daughter a little over a year ago and although she is getting better on a variety of meds the California Dr has stated that she believes that maybe some doctor that treats Stari in the southern states where it exists has found that maybe one certain antibiotic rather than another antibiotic hits the STARI strain better than the Bb strain. She also is wondering whether or not there is some combination or pulse therapy that works on STARI if that is in fact the strain we are dealing with since we are from Texas.
Does anyone know whether there a treatment protocol that is more effective on treating the STARI strain than the Bb strain. And also, who would be the Dr. to see that is experienced with that treatment protocol? Please only listed last name initial, city and state of Dr. or send private reply.
Thanks

LLMD's belong to ILADS. They have a discussion group where they discuss this sort of thing. Perhaps you can ask her to become a member if she isn't already? If she is, she will likely have access to the doctors who know about STARI. http://www.ilads.org/
Hopefully tutu will come along. I think her doctor knows about STARI. Terry
