I started malarone with zith 2 weeks ago. Been waking up every am with nausea. This morning I threw up. How do others tolerate it?

Any suggestions for the nausea?

Also-what are babs herx's like? I also have increased fatigue, and very mild SOB. I'm acually not sure if I still have babs. My 2nd titer came back negative, but when I called Igenex, they said the titer test wasn't very accurate at lower levels. (first test was positive)

Thanks

Hi shoney,

Yes, it can be very hard to tolerate, I feel for you, I know the nausea is no fun at all. [Frown]

I have had stomach problems for a long time, but when I started treatment for Babesia that was the worst. I had nausea pretty much most of the time during treatment.

Ginger tea helped and for some odd reason, chicken soup.

I hope you find something that helps, you will get through this, hang in there.

Fatigue, facial pain, numbness, teeth pain, some night sweats, loss of appetite, insomnia, dry eyes/ mouth, shoulder pain, hard time swallowing pills, arms and legs were stiff, emotional stuff, toe pain, depression, nausea, and chest pain.

Dear Shoney,

I've been on Malarone and zith.

I guess I am lucky as at times I felt very nauseated before going to bed, it would pass during the night.

Are you taking your malarone with food or milk?

I didn't know any better and didn't for the first full month of treatment.

I also took my zith with dinner, but then found it upset my stomach a lot. Started taking it about two hours after my meal. No problems since.

Initially, I had increased air-hunger, increased night sweats, increased joint pain (especially at night) and some headaches.

Hang in there. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi Shoney,
I'm sorry about the nausea, I found it worst with Aremisinin than anything so far.

Have you tried taking meds at different times to see if they make you less nauseated in the morning?

I know it's weird but sometimes if I can eat something nausea gets better. Ginger helps some as Beverly suggested.

I've only been trying to treat Babs for a short time (in the larger scheme of things).

Some of my symptoms from Malarone and Amoxy, presently, are: extreme tiredness, chills, sweats, mild air hunger, palpitations, loss of appetite and food being gross, clammy hands and feet, increase in muscle and joint pain...
and did I mention extremely tired?

I am extremely tired too, although it doesn't help much with night-time sleep. I still wake up early am. I can't even think about eating, although I've lost 20 lbs, I'm down to 100 lbs-I can't afford to lose anymore.

I hope I make it thru this round

I started Mepron & Azyth 6 days ago. My sleep is totally affected. I wake up very early even though I take 2 Benedryl at night. I am not tired fortunately.

Two days ago, I vomited after taking the Mepron. I think the trick is to eat my food and fat before taking the Mepron. When I added something AFTER I took the Mepron, I violently threw up.

Today seems like an okay day after rage herxing the past few days with the new Babesia protocol. We will see.

Hi Shoney,

Sorry to hear about your stomach upset. I am also taking malarone and find that if I take it with a full meal I feel much better.
Good luck with your treatment.

Anyone else experience extreme fatigue with malarone? I'm dizzy, really really tired and more depressed. Is this a herx, or reaction to the meds

Dear Shoney,

My LLMD said a reaction from malarone is unlikely as it made mostly of inert ingredients (not likely to cause an allergic reaction).

However, my fatigue was definitely more pronouced on malarone/zith combo.

Not sure if it was a herx, or Lyme creeping back into the picture.

Started back on doxycycline about two weeks ago, and I am twice as fatigued as I was on malarone.

Herx, maybe?

Maybe the zithromax is causing some of those symptoms.

I started the malarone without zith to make sure I wasn't going to have a problem with it.

It is when I added the zith, I had herx-like reactions.

Not sure if this helps. Every body seems to tolerate meds and med combos differently.

Hang in there.

Geneal-Now that you mention it, when I take zith, I feel tired. I don't know if it's lyme, because I just finished 12 weeks of rifampin/doxy and zith on weekends, which would of also hit the lyme. I see my llmd next week.

I know my babs symptoms are coming back while on doxy too!!!!

Frustrating as heck to try to figure out how to hit every infection/co-infection without killing yourself from the herxes.

Does that imply that doxy might stir up babs?

--I think it's (extreme fatigue) more likely from the diseases. I do not recall having a "herx" from malarone. I also took artimesia anua, when I went after the babesia.

I don't remember for sure, but I think I took the 'malarone' with a small amount of food, (malarone is an atovaquone combi-- atovaquone is what ..'mepron'.. actually is.-note the similarity in color). In my case I had no kind of herx, and this sequence was the turn-around point; it was all up from then on in; getting the babs was the key. I hope it does it for you; I'm sorry to hear you are having difficulties. As someone said, ginger tea may help. Also, don't forget to replenish your acidophilus , as "between" doses as you can get. If you're still having trouble you might try a little yarrow-- yarrow tea-1 tsp yarrow steeped in a cup of just-boiled water for 5 minutes, before a small "pre-med meal". Yarrow seems to be incredibly healing for the digestive tract. (the taste is NOT great, (better than atovaquone though, in my opinion!), but for me it was incredibly powerful for healing my digestive system.)

One more thing-- gingko biloba helped me tremendously with depression, and helped with other aspects of lyme, too. I think it is a very good herb to take with lyme, unless you are on any kind of blood thinner. I would NOT take gingko, if I were taking other blood-thinners (heparin, for example) as I have heard that it is known to also have a blood-thinning effect.
