I was bit about 9 months ago and I have a lot of lyme symptoms. I just started seeking Lyme diagnosis and treatment.
My PCP (not LLMD) prescribed me doxycycline 200mg/day while waiting for blood test result (might not be helpful). I read on this forum that 400mg is just enough. My qeustion is should I take 400mg from the right beginning, or to add more dosage after a few days?
My PCP has never treated lyme before, but she's open to prescription options. I have BCBS HMO, so it might take her a couple of more weeks to agree to give me referral...
Any suggestion is highly appreciated!

Hi. I took 300mg a day as I only weighed 115 lbs.
I initially was put on 200 mg a day by GP, but I felt that it just masked my symptoms.
However, this may be a good starting point due to herxing.
Now when I start any new meds, I always start with one for a couple of days, then go to two, etc, etc.
There are many great knowledgeable people here that can probably better advise you.
Good luck on your road to recovery.

You may want to start slow, you don't have to herx to death. But if you don't get alot of herxing you may want to talk to your doc about upping your dose to 400 - 600mg a day. (also depending on your weight)
You also may want to bring in Dr. B's guidelines and educate this doctor, so that she can learn about LD and possibly spotting it in other patients.
This is what I have done with my HMO PCP, and he has been receptive to all the info I bring him. Education is the first step.
Hopefully the referral doc doesn't blow you off, especially if your test doesn't come back CDC PERFECT! Many docs don't know how to read these tests and and make you think or tell you you don't have it cause you don't have a CDC positive test. Been There Done That!
Bring any and all docs you see a copy of Dr. B's guidelines. If they are not receptive to it, then find another doc.
I'll start with 200mg a day for a few days and see how it goes...

200 mg is not the correct dose, it's got to be atleast 300 mg to treat Lyme disease. It's best you get to a Lyme Literate doctor.

I've done very very well with 200 mg/d of doxy when it was used in combination with something else (i.e. Ketek). The largest dose I've ever been on was 400 mg/d.

I would find an LLMD NOW and make the appointment NOW. A referral isn't going to do you much good since they will likely only refer you to an ID dr. [who likely won't treat Lyme long term]
You need an LLMD.
