I think I ftactured my toe or foot when I fell Friday night. I was just walking across the living room and lost my balance. I came down on my foot with all the toes bent under and heard a few loud snaps... so load my husband heard it in the other room. Not the kind of knuckle pops you are used to hearing, this was a definite snap.

"###)%&*$(*&*(*#***!!*&*@$&)*@&$)*&***%(*&^^" is about all I could say and then cried.

Of course we had to be in the middle of an ice storm with blizzard conditions forcasted so I did not want to take the kids out so I could go to the dumb ER. I hate the ER because I have to bring the file and try to convince each RENT A DUCk on weekend call that I have Lyme and it is not worth the psychological trauma. Not to mention is costs too much $$$.

Pedal pulse is ok. I am keeping it elevated. Foot does not have good color today and is still slightly swollen so I guess I have to go to the doc tomorrow..... after the tax appt. of course. Hooray. Two pleasant appointments in one day. I can't wait.

In January I took a tumble down the stairs to the basement, but my padding protected me from harm thank goodness. I got out of that with just bruises and lots of soreness.

Lately I have been falling about once a week. This concerns me. I am not light headed per say but off balance really bad. It is worse when the brain fog is worse of course. I wonder is the lesions in the brain stem area are getting worse.

Anybody else have problems falling? This sux.

Not since Iv Rocephin but before that I had begun to lose my balance all the time and could not walk without falling. Was also slowing down AND weakening, separate processes, at same time...
ANd did the perception off thing where I would bang into doorways all the time, so I would bascially lurch from piece of furntiture to the wall leaning on things, and falling here and htere- slowly.... would take me 15 minuts to cross a room by the end. IV Rocephin made all normal after 9 months BUT I am on maintenance abx and the FIRST thing (okay, the second- the first would be inflammatoin swollen fingers) the SECOND thing I get if I try to go off abx is... I begin to fall over... Lose my balance, literally, and if you have lost your balance you understand. There is suddenly, no gravity mechanism in your body, no mechanism of understanding balance. Just GONE!!!

I hope this is not what is happening with you.
It is pretty common with progressive neuro Lyme. It was awful. I am so glad it is gone.

I hope you have a good LLMD!!!
Take care,
Best wishes,
Sarah

uffda, sorry to read about your continuing falling. have you had a neurologist check you out as a former co-worker had this, and it was the beginning of MS for him; another co-worker in same office location room got it also.

Ima,

My balance is lousy at best and I had a run going with a broken bone every autumn. Luckily that has ended, for good, I hope! [Wink]

One time I accidentally kicked the support post in my closet and I ended up with a broken toe from that one. I was out of my shoes for a good two months with that one. I could finally wear one pair only. Got a bit old! [shake]

Another year I lost my balance on the way down the stairs and caught myself near the bottom, ending up breaking my little finger at a joint.

That was another two months and physical therapy to boot. I had to wear a plaster splint and learned to type one-handed with that one! [Big Grin]

I am always tripping over one of my dogs who likes to get right in the way between where I am and where I am going. Then she stops and I have to catch myself! [Eek!]

I hope you are able to get some good treatment from your own doc today. [Smile]

Yes, before I was being treated I would lose my balance frequently and fall sometimes. Especially if I had to close my eyes while I was standing.

Just about a month ago I was sitting on the side of the couch when a three year old jumped up to hug me and I lost my balance and fell to the floor.

I landed on my calf and it hurt like He**!
LLMD called it a crush-injury. It's much better now.

My balance has also improved and I have been taking orals for ~ 6 months.

What abx are you taking?

And be careful. [Big Grin]

Ihave had many episodes of balance problems with lyme.

I'm very sorry you are having balance problems now, and have a foot injury! I hope you have had you foot checked out.

The advice from others about contacting your LLMD and a neurologist is consistant with what I would say too.

I wish you well!

In the mean time, becareful and be aware, use wall, and your arms as you guides when you move from place to place. Make mental patterns in your head that you repeat when you move in familiar places to avoid injury, like telling youself movement stories, and doing things the same way all the time when you can.

Taking walks with ski poles helps to balance stride patterns, and can improve balance, but don't overdo and get exhuasted. Make sure the ski pole moves with the oppisite leg.

be gentle

My balance is one of my top 5 problems and it is accompanied by chronic feeling of being on a moving boat and head pressure

I havent been on antibiotics more than a month so i couldnt say whether or not that helps.

I agree about not liking ER and the decision to bring up Lyme...and I have to say you made me laugh with the WEEKEND RENT A DUC comment. Hahhahaha. Thanks!
