Has anyone taken the above for Lyme pain? I have Fibro. type pain all over...really bad. I wonder if anyone has had any success with anything for this terrible bodywide pain. Thank you, Jan, my email is [email protected]Posts: 246 | From Illinois | Registered: Jul 2005

My daughter was in horrible pain. The neuro decided to try her on Lyrica even though it hadn't been tested on children. It did not help her at all, but I honestly don't think her pain was nerve pain.
I don't think it would be dangerous for you as an adult to try it. You have nothing to lose when you are in that much pain. My heart goes out to you.

I was on it for 8 months and it did nothing for me, that is until I quit. When I quit my burning skin pain increased as well as depression. I quit it, by weaning over a month. I stopped over a month ago and I am still feeling it.
I heard it works well for many, good luck.

It has really helped my "Fibro buddy". She has been on it about 3 weeks to a month, and has been able to cut way back on her pain meds.
Although this friend cannot seem to find a doctor in her area who will use either the Igenex or Bowen Lyme tests, even she agrees that she probably has Lyme. She had the tick bite and the rash and all of it years ago.
I've heard that the tricky part of Lyrica is getting insurance to cover it. It has ONLY been approved for neuropathy associated with diabetes, but I think if your doc writes the script right, it will be covered. It has been for some people with Fibro. It is being covered for my friend and she does not have diabetes.

I have been taking this for a couple of months, as I developed peripheral neuropathry in my feet, either caused from the Lyme, or from all the Flagyl I took.
It has worked wonders for me, and was effective almost immediately. I hear for others it may take up to 3 weeks to work. I can't imagine going back to that pain.
Best of luck, Jill

This may be a site to keep track of...an old friend of mine just started working there, although not on the medical end. I'll see what I can find out from her.

I just began taking Lyrica three weeks ago for neck pain that has been around since May. It does not totally alleviate the pain, but it sure helps. I still feel pressure and tightness but it make the nerve junk tolerable.
Interesting company. Let us know what you find out!

Hi Jan,
I tried Lyrica for peripheral neuropathy that was fairly extensive. I found that it did not relieve the pain, and it kept me very druggy feeling, even on the lower doses.
I have gotten relief by increasing my oxycontin, and taking Zonegran, low dose, for migraines. If one thing doesn't work, try again. Everyone is different. Some people find that taking low doses of several things works better than taking high doses of one thing.
I was prescribed Cymbalta for the neuropathy pain in my legs and have been on it for several months. It has worked great and I rarely have pain at all anymore. Hope you find relief soon.

Lyrica is approved for diabetic nerve pain as well as
post-herpetic nerve pain.
Now, I don't think my insurance is overly progressive, Blue shield, but I don't have diabetes. The only "Herpes" I ever had was chicken pox as a child. But, If you can get the insurance company to understand that you have some form of herpes (most americans do)and pain, I suppose it would make it easier for them to approve it.
