I haven't been contributing but have been reading. Not doing so well.
I have the worst acid reflux, stomach issues, nausea with the meds I am taking now and what I was on before.
I was on art 100mg day, samento 1 dropperfull, fluconazole, cholestyramine and flagyl. I was only able to tolerate flagyl for 3 days. I was already taking art and samento then added the other stuff in as directed by my llmd. I was to be on this for 3 weeks and 2weeks off while I was on vacation.
During my 2 wk vacation I was feeling horrible, I had been on prilosec 1 week before vacation.
I went to my llmd when I got home told him what was going on with me etc. He feels the babs is what I need to deal with at this time.
He put me on malarone 1 tab, 4 times a day for 3 days, then 1 daily (250mg). Also, azithromycin 500mg 1xday, and ceftin 500mg 1xday. He told me to continue on prilosec because acid reflux is not good (like I don't know that).
Went to my primary care and she is getting nexium to be covered by my insurance. Hopefully in next 2 days.
I feel like I am dying. My stomach is killing me, I have no appetite, nausea, fatigued, headache along with all my regulare symptoms.
Should I take a break and see what happens? I can't get in touch with my llmd until Tuesday of next week. I am so stressed out right now. Help.

Hi Karen,
I am not your doctor, but I can say for me, that sounds like alot of malarone and alot of zith -- and you are taking ceftin also.
I had a positive test for babs, along with all the symptoms, and was started on just one malarone day, 250/100. No zith. Malarone is a combo drug already, and while zith in combo with mepron makes babs tx more effective, my llmd thinks that malarone is enough without the zith for babs.
I don't know if he is right, but at least I am able to keep functioning stomach-wise during treatment. Since I have increased my daily dosage of amoxy recently, I am herxing from that, but it is all (for today) bearable.
In my enthusiasm for getting better, I added zith on my own for a few days -- and ended up with a knock-out herx.
If you are really unfunctional and cannot call your doc today, maybe stop taking the zith for the weekend would help? Remember, this is non medical advice from a non-doctor, but that is what I would do in your place.

All those meds can be hard on the stomach, Flagyl and Malarone especially! Zithromax and ceftin..all antibiotics can cause nausea. It's really hard when the stomach gets so inflamed. Samento can cause nausea too. Get checked for h.pylori, and try backing off the meds..maybe add one at a time to see which one is causing the nausea? Thats what I had to do, stop all meds, then add one at a time, one per week, to see which one was the nausea maker..may be more than one in your case. Have you tried carafate or DGL(licorice) it helps coat the stomach.

I think I should back off. The acid coming up into my throat is killing me.
I know you guys aren't doctors, but I've been on so many other meds too so I have a little (not much}knowledge.
So should I stop the malarone, zith and ceftin and add in one by one to see which is bothering me? Should I stay on mepron and ceftin and take a break from zith. This is my first time on zith. I have been on malarone and ceftin in the past but not at the same time. Maybe the combo of all 3 is too much.
I am about to lose my mind. I really have already lost that a long time ago. Condor, I do have Dgl tablets but they don't seem to help. I also tried raw organic apple cider vinegar.
Thanks for your input.

If it were me, I would try stopping the zith first, to see if that helps.
People react differently, but zith is very difficult for me.
Also, some lymenetters have had good results in dealing with acid reflux with something called pine nut oil. I will find you the link and post it, seems worth a try! Hope you feel better.

This was posted by llamawarrior a few months ago; I have kept it in mind, not for me, but want to try it on my husband who suffers from acid reflux (though have not gotten around to it yet):
"I had SEVERE GERD, for several years. I was in my 20s, and had not yet been made aware that I had late-stage Lyme.
Fast forward: I had and was healed of severe Lyme, but the acid reflux disease remained.
I bought this stuff and tried it, thinking I had nothing to lose. Within like 5 days, my reflux was GONE.
Its been a few months now, and Im off all meds. I had been on my 4th med, had had 2 endocsopies by the age of 30, and was ready to get surgery to get rid of this nasty problem.
I do not work for these people! I am just sharing somethiing that really, really worked for me! I was so glad! I was preparing for surgery, at the age of (at that time) 31.
Now I can drink a can of tomato soup and still not get the reflux. Its GREAT!
Tbe stuff was costing me around $25-$30 a month, for a month's supply, but man was it worth it.
I just wanted to post this here, for all those who also suffer as I did with the darned GERD nightmare.

I can make no personal endorsement, but let us know if you try it and it helps!

Cave, I really do think I am on too much at one time. I did not take any zith today and I am only going to take 1 500mg ceftin to see if that helps.
The wierd thing is I feel like I have the flu, chills, diarreah, I vomited twice, coughing alot, headache, sore throat (like my lymph nodes are swollen, feels like I'm being strangled).
Hard to tell if I am truly sick or if this is a herx. I had the same feeling about 2 months ago when I was on the art, samento, fluconozale.
I'm going back to bed, so I'll check back later.
Hubby is bringing the boys to a movie and my daughter to a sleepover party so I can rest.
Thank God for him,
Karen
