Hi All,
I use to be an active memeber of this site but the past year I have just been browsing and checking things out. Anyway I will try to make my story short...
I got infected with lyme back in 1993. I did have the classic bullseye rash, I also got the bells palsy, and joint aches. My dr. diagnosed it since she knew I had a summer house out on Long Island and the test came out positive. (also had a spinal tap). I was put on two weeks of IV Rocephin and that was it.
Around 2000 I started to feel really sick again..
I saw a lyme dr. this time and again I was diagnosed with lyme (also spinal tap again). Iwas put on 4 weeks of IV Rocephin. I really was feeling so much better by the 4th week. They did a spinal tap to make sure it was clear and then the IV was removed.

Since then I have not felt well. Lethargy, wooziness, floaters, tinnitus in my left ear (that is the side I had the bells palsy). I have another dr. who is not neaer me and he performed a test sent to IGENEX. I did have quite a few positive bands for IGG and IGM. ( I do not have them off hand). He did want me to take 3000 mg of amoxicillin whihc I was doing but my stomach and GI trac was not doing well with it.
I only did it for a monthe and he wanted me to take the abx for 3 months. It is probably my fault for not continuing but I feel if I do not see results I just discontinue which is not a good thing.
Any advice that you can give my will be appriciated. Please email me with doctors in the Long Island, NYC area. I would greatly like to see someone that can help me. I still feel this disease is lingering in my body.
thanks for your help

To find a doctor in your area go to the seeking doctors section of this website and ask.

It does not sound like you were tested or treated for co-infections which is critical if you are to remain free of illness. Ticks carry more than just borrelia and until those are addressed you will not get well.

Make sure you find an ILADS doctor because they are typically the best source of help.

Learn all that you can about this illness so that you can be better informed regarding your treatment requirements.

Wishing you the best.
Terry

One month for the treatment of chronic Lyme is nothing. Three months isn't long enough either. Also, unfortunately, you won't even start to feel better after only one month, so stopping treatment because you don't feel better is not a good idea.

You need to see an LLMD and have long term treatment.

It's also important to be taking supplements/probiotics to help your stomach deal with the long-term antibiotics.

The point about the co-infections is a good one, too.

Lyme is a complicated illness and can be made more difficult by coinfections, heavy metals, candida, etc. It takes a real specialist to help you overcome this disease.

Your treatment wasn't long enough in duration. Most people will agree that you should treat AT LEAST 3 months past the point where you have no Lyme Symptoms.

26 months of treatment. And counting.......
