I've had really good results controlling symptoms with boneset - mostly pain (my Lyme pain is NOT very strong though!) and minor chills. When I was really sick in January it felt like a crutch that helped me function.
Stephen Buhner says a lot of good things about boneset herb (eupatorium perfoliatum), and recommends it for babesia with chills, and for bartonella in general. He seems to recommend it in conjunction with red root tincture to help clear dead material out of the lymph system, which is what I've been doing. (he also recommends it in his book 'Herbs for Hepatitis C and the Liver' for liver conditions, and says that it's safe for long-term use)
I also experienced a mild herx on it initially, and it gave me mild nausea initially when I was fairly sick. THese side effects went away after a few days.
I also use this herb for influenza which is it's more traditional usage and it really relieves the symptoms for me. It was used by American doctors in the 1918 influenza pandemic and I believe in an earlier pandemic 20 years before that.
(interestingly andrographis, Buhner's main core protocol herb, was used in the 1918 influenza pandemic in India very successfully in reducing the number of deaths from the disease)
Buhner and other herbalists say to take it as a tea, not a tincture or capsule. I have heard repeatedly from different sources that if you take it hot there are slightly different effects (more sweating, and more nausea) than if the tea is cold.
How has this herb worked for other people- Meg (I think- maybe it was mags???) recently posted that it helped her sleep better after a few days.

I love boneset and have used it for quite some time. I initially started it for hot flashes for menopause but then later read about it in Buhner's book. I buy the loose tea and use a teaspoon and throw it into a boiling small pot and then let it cool before I drink it. Not too bad and supposed to be really good for the immune system.
Helped quite a bit with hot flashes that I developed following the abrupt discontinuation of HRT. Was having drenching sweats every couple of hours and severly disrupted sleep.

you want to drink it.
It's not too bad- slightly bitter. I added fruity herb tea to it at first to mask the taste.
I don't exactly have chills like babesia folks (?) do, but I did feel colder than normal all winter (I think of myself as being able to tolerate cold but it was weird this year due to Lyme therapy I think). Taking it made me sweat, for sure (at least in shower or in bed wrapped up in blankets), and I think it eventually normalized the 'chilly' feeling.
