What is the lastest thought on this? I used to believe that I would be "cured" (which is a good mindset to focus on). But I'm wondering whether the general consensus these days is for remission, with maintenance abx?

My LLMD says "remission". He says he has seen too many cases of Lyme
go dormant or in remission for 5, 6 or more years to come back.
Of course, he adds, had we caught this when you got bit by a tick, then you can be cured...
Great...never saw a tick....never had a rash.
I pray for a "cure" from Lyme, but won't be disappointed if this is something
I may have to deal with off and on for the rest of my life....

It's funny, I'm willing to live with the remission notion as well - something I refused to entertain for the past 2 1/2 years when I began suspecting Lyme (I'd already been disabled for 1 year prior to that, with no diagnosis). Perhaps it's a question of negotiating with the devil...OK then, you can live here, but _I_ get to manage you, OK? VS: Get the hell out!
Maybe until a "cure" is found we just have to accept that human life is in "relationship" with one _serious_ parasite, and that's just the "deal"?
Looking forward to hearing other people's thoughts.

Iam startng to think this is a mute point anymore. Reasons why because mosquitoes, fleas,ticks,blackfly,all known to carry the spirochetes thus just the possibilities of being reinfected are now really high.
What is needed is complete vacination to reinfection of all types borrelia.

That would be wonderful!!!!
I guess I measure quality vs. quantity.
I am slowly getting some measure of quality back in my life....
I can appreciate my children again...which for a while really had no concept of what was real
due to the significant brain fog.
I guess I realize that the "powers that be" don't even accurately report Lyme,
test for Lyme, or basically believe in Lyme past 28 days of antibiotics.
I am sure I run a high risk of being reinfected again, due to living in the country
and having so many people around me being bitten by ticks and having Lyme symptoms.
If I have to take doxy every day for the rest of my life to have a life....well, come on doxy!!!!!
Still praying and hoping for a "cure" though.

The LLMD I am currently seeing does not believe in a cure. She believes we can get LD into remission, but never eliminate it entirely.

Recovery... Remission... Whatever. The end result is that we all desire to feel well again.
Whatever label you put on it.. I don't care. If / when I feel well again, I'll be extactic.

Feeling well and being well are two different things.
Lots of people feel well right up to where they have a heart attack and die. Lots of people felt well right up too where they cant think anymore.
Personaly I want this sprirochete and all its cohorts totally iradicated from My body.

I had heard that a Canadian pharmaceutical company had come up with a vaccine in the late 80s or 90s, but stopped making it due to lack of demand. Anyone have any information about this?

Remission!!!
The Pubmed abstract I have been looking for years now- saw it once and didn't save it to a thread- and have never been able to find it again- why i love pubmed- not a conspiracy- just whimsical keywords- was done by Russian researchers and was about Lyme as a life stage disease- I think of that abstract as the One That Got Away!
Can't wait to read it again one day-= probably will be disappointed- but it was basically saying they had conculded after doing an age baased study of LD that is was a lifetime lifestage illness- made me really think in terms of genreatonal Lyme- transplacental transmission/activation- just neat to think about- all the permutations of what that means with other TBDs thrown in- wow!!!!
so- yes- REMISSION!!!!
and I believe bulls-eye rashes- are always RE infectioN!!!
