Yale university announced yesterday that it has appointed Dr. Rigid Sphincter to head its new Department of Lyme Research and Treatment.
The Yale spokesman pointed out that Lyme has been very, very good for Yale, bringing it tens of millions of dollars in research grants over the years.
Dr. Spincter is an accomplished medical science researcher, focusing for years on debunking the bacterial theory of ulcers, and subsequently on
proving that Chronic Fatigue was psychosomatic in orgin.
Dr Spincter said he looks forward to treating
patients with excellent insurance coverage as well as those who are wealthy.

(Sorry, I saw Blades of Glory yesterday, and I need to keep laughing.
And the truth be told, the IDSA crew appears to be made up entirely of white guys who can't dance. No question in my mind who would win a face off between the IDSA docs and the ILADS
docs on Dancing With the Stars.)

Actually, they are exploring the idea that humours of the body need to be rebalanced, as in black bile, blood, phlegm, and yellow bile. And they find that the signs of the zodiac are important in treating disease. A new position of chief of astrology is going to be established in the infectious diseases section.

Perhaps we should start then treating the AMA with hot bamboo shoots under the finger nails I heard it is very stimulating to the gall-blamer and other organs.
