Thanks to a comment by Geneal in another thread, I'm now aware that fiance should not be taking milk thistle while on Malarone.

Can someone please recommend an alternative liver support that won't interfere with absorption of Malarone (and Tindamax and Zith)?

Many thanks,
Aviva

I'm sorry, Aviva, I can't help you but I felt bad that nobody had responded to your question. I'll check my Buehner book to see what he recommends.

I would love to know too. Since I read yesterday not to take Milk Thistle with Malarone I tossed the Malarone out the window. Not really but I stopped taking the Milk Thistle.

Thanks for your reply, Carol. We have Buhner around here somewhere. I had the same thought about checking, but haven't turned up the book yet. I did look at Buhner's advice column on planetthrive.com for ideas; he mainly talks about milk thistle, which is not an option for the moment.

Fiance is doing the Buhner core protocol, which includes sarsaparilla, which helps with detoxing.

He's going to re-start PhosChol, which was recommended by LLMD for improved energy, but is also a liver support. He's also drinking lemon water, as well as our version of Tincup's detox tea recipe (including dandelion root). And wearing the Health Marvels detox foot pads at night.

What are you doing for liver support while you're on Malarone?

Open to all ideas.

thanks again,
Aviva

Thank

Vanilla,
You and I must have posted at the very same moment. Were you doing anything else for liver support besides the milk thistle?

Our next appointment with LLMD is in about a month. I've thought of calling to ask this question, but I don't want to seem more neurotic than...I seem already!

According to the babesia book ("The Diagnosis and Treatment of Babesia")NAC (N-acetylcysteine) is important. It helps with phase I and II liver detox. Average protection dose is 1,000 to 1,800 per day. I am taking malarone and 1800 mg of NAC. Also Cal d-glucarate is needed to make sure that phase II is working. Otherwise, phase I may make some nasty chemicals that get left in the body because phase II may not be working properly.

Bottom line, make sure you have enough glutathione. Pills or capsules of reduced glutatione. I take both reduced glutathione and NAC. According to the book, some feel that this helps a small amount of glutathione pass into the liver. Alpha lipoic acid helps revitalize glutathione according to the book but it can lower your blood sugar. One of my doctors feels that 600 mg of alpha lipoic acid could mobilize metals so you will want to be careful if you decide to add this. Low levels of magnesium reduce glutathione so be sure you or your boyfriend has enough.

The book also talks about taking standardized milk thistle but doesn't mention a problem with it regarding malarone even though there is a section on malarone. Maybe I missed it?

I'm not a doctor and I would suggest that all of this be checked out for interactions with the LLMD in charge.

Terry
