Maybe somebody could tell me if they have ever had the following symptoms I have had while taking doxy, or are my symptoms just weird?
I was taking doxy 200mg 2 times per day and after 6 days I became very dizzy with shakiness, weakness, fatigue, and some shortness of breath which lasted for 24 hours after stopping the drug.
My Dr. had me stop taking it for 3 days (all the symptoms disappeared) and then restart it only once a day. Well after only 1 dose all the symptoms came back again, so once again the doxy was stopped.
After 1 day off the doxy he started me on tetracycline 500mg 3x per day but after 1 dose all the same symptoms are back along with cramps and nausea which I didn't have with the doxy.
I was really expecting stomach issues but not these symptoms. Has anyone else experienced this or am I just strange, and should I be looking for a different abx to use? I'm just afraid I might end up with a serious reaction if I continue using these drugs. Thanks, Dava

Dava I had serious herxheimers taking doxycycline. I literally thought I was having a heart attack the first time I took it. I had problems breathing. It did feel like my throat was closing.
Chills, severe insomnia, spontaneous swelling of my finger joints which you could actually watch occur with in minutes, such bad vertigo I couldn't drive, sciatica pain that felt like a knife, severe fatigue, feelings of being in a different reality than the rest of the world...
It was SO scary. And some of these symptoms occurred within a very short time of me only taking 100 mg.
At this point I had not been educated as to what a herxheimer reaction was and was convinced I had MS and was allergic to doxy.
However with treatment and after educating myself about the herxheimer reaction these reactions disapated when I took doxy. It turned out to be one of the best antibiotics for me to take for treatment.
I took it numerous times after the initial herxheimers and each time the symtpoms would lessen in severity when I took it...translated the herxheimers became less severe.
I know could take 400 mg of doxy if I wanted and there would be little if any herxheimer.
It can be very disconcerting at first. Sometimes anaplaxis and herxheimers can look pretty similiar. For me the shooting sciatica which I had never experienced did not correlate and the spontaneous joint swelling with an allergic reaction but seemed more likely a herxheimer.
It is all so confusing at first.
Take care and hope you figure it all out.

Sounds like you herx very easily. Work with your doc to go slow on the ABX.

(my Dr's bad handwriting had my pharmacy give me a dose of 800 mg per day - it read "take two pills 4 x per day instead of 2. I did this for 10 days - talk about a herx!!)
