I have heard this somewhere but can't remember.
Somebody told me that there are some of us (and I believe I am one) that are so ill with late or chronic lyme that we cannot tolerate antibiotics at the massive amounts needed because the herxes would probably kill us.
So we need to be on very small amounts of antibiotics.
I have found I cannot even tolerate 500 mg of ceftin a day, after a couple of weeks, the herx is just too bad, and I have to stop. The last time I almost ended up in the hospital.
So has anyone heard this or been on smaller amounts of drugs?
If if you are, then how can it treat lyme, if it's so small, but you can't tolerate larger doses?
See what I mean, vicious circle.........

I have your problem as well. Except I was only sick for a little over a year prior to starting treatment. I am pulsing my oral antibiotics. I take once every 2-3 days. Right now I seem to be able to handle 500mg Biaxin and 250mg Plaquenil every 3rd day but I still herx everytime, AND I herx really HARD every 2-3 weeks as well. I have been in treatment for 3.5 months now. Nothing has really improved except for the little symptoms that were hardly noticable in the first place and my "good" days are a little better, only a hair though...

what kind of herx do you have? after 3 weeks of ceftin 500 per day, my head felt like it was going to burst, the pain was unbearable, the stomach pain was bad, my vision was blurry, and the itching was driving me crazy.
The sides of my neck were swollen, as were my underarms and my groin.
I think now I was herxing and didn't know it but went to doctor who stopped all meds.
My blood was sky high tho, so I don't know if that's part of a herx or not? Also the heart irregularities were getting bad.
But I'm not sure what herx symptoms truly are.......
