I am currently on Doxycycline, but I fear
I may have to go on Blood Pressure medication
if my BP doesn't come down. I'm a bit worried
the two may not mix. Is anyone taking Abx
and BP medication? Which BP medication are
you using and are there any reactions from
taking both?
Thanks

My bloodpressure was up recently. I read where Vit C can bring it down.

I had stopped taking my C about a month before the pressure rose. It rose to 136/90.

I started the C again at 2000mg daily and after 2 or 3 weeks the doctor took my bloodpressure and it was 118/70.

Try C.

I have high blood pressure and take hydrochlorothiazide - a nice cheap diuretic used for hpb. My doc tried to change it to Lisinopril last year because I had one very high reading - I gained 14 pounds in 3 weeks! I asked to go back to the old, which I did, and my bp is fine.

Hi,

I had high blood pressure before the lyme...at least the diagnoses for lyme.

I have always taken cozaar for high BP (3 years now). I take one a day at bedtime.

I have taken Cozaar with:
Malarone, biaxin, Doxy, Zithromax, flagyl, planquenil, diflucan, nystatin, clindamycin/quinine, and ryfampin.

When I do feel like I am herxing or my body is completely drained then I may skip a blood pressure pill at night.

I have had no issues with mixing and my blood pressure has been perfect.

Forgot to mention I am also taking Levothyroxine for thyroid.

Whenever I take a new drug I check it at:
www.medscape.com/drugchecker

It will usually tell you if there are any issues that they know about. It saved my butt a few times.

The one's to really watch for are the cholesterol medicines. They don't mix well with Lyme drugs.

Good luck..

I got high BP with Lyme (but it could be genetic too) and have been on Micardia and now Toprol with various abx with no problem. Should always check though- can always ask pharmacist when getting new rx!!!

Thank you for your replies.
I feel happier now I know that Abx and
BP medication has been o.k. together. I will check out whatever they may give me first though.
I'll also up the Vit C and see if that helps.
