Welcome to Lyme Net!

Sorry you are in so much pain.

Check out the left side of the board (Support Groups) and see if there is a contact email for a NY group who might give you some info on a doctor who treats Lyme in the city or state.

Hope that helps and hope your pain subsides soon.

This is indeed a common symptom of Lyme. The problem is this: The 'tests' commonly administered to detect Lyme disease are not at all accurate, especially for a relatively new infection. If you can find a true lyme specialist ("lyme-literate doc"), he or she will know what are currently the most accurate tests, but may start you on antibiotics immediately , since even the best tests are not perfect. To find a "lyme-literate" doc, you might post in "seeking doctor" section of lymenet- I got several suggestions when I did this. (though I ultimately went with a doc personally reccomended by friends in our support group.)

Yes, this is quite alot of trouble to go through, so as some have suggested above, you do want to be fairly sure than lyme is likely to be behind your problems. Lyme is a blood infection, and ticks are the main "vectors"; thus, lyme is usually picked up through ticks, though of course transfusion may be a possible means of transmission. Sexual transmission may be possible, but I know of cases where it apparently did not occur, so it's far from a sure thing..

Were you bitten by ticks prior to the appearance of these symptoms? Then you have at least Lyme., and if you can swing it, you should immediately get a lyme-literate doc and start treatment.

Do you remember any circular rashes? That is also sure indicator.

But as I said, your symptoms are highly suggestuve of Lyme, so it would probably be good to find a lyme-savvy doc sooner, rather than later.

jburke, I sent you a PM with 3 links to directories to help you find a homeopath near you in New York state.
