Nothing new there. Samento and the various Nutramedix producs have been around for awhile. The good thing is to see they are doing some studies and publicizing that CFS can be from Lyme. To many, this is a "duh" moment but for others, it may save a life....

good to hear.

Is samento actually a 'variant' of cats' claw like the press release says, or is it just renamed that for marketing purposes? (yeah, I know it's what una de gato is also called, but that's not what I"m asking)

Maria -- To answer your question -- It is kind of like asking is artemesinin the same as artemesia.

Artemesia is the whole natural herb -- artemesinin (there are other deriviatives also such as artensuate --sp?) is a chemically refined "drug" made from artemesia.

Samento is una de gato or cat's claw that has been refined/processed -- chemicals have been removed to make it TOA free. Buhner explains in detail in the Healing Lyme book why he prefers to use the whole herb.

According to Buhner removing the TOA component actually takes away some of the neuroprotective substances in the cat's claw.

Uusally when herbs are refined they become more toxic because the "supposed" active chemical is concentrated and other protective chemicals are removed.

Solgar company makes a line of standardized herbs I like -- have bought milk thistle and a few others -- but they don't make artemesia or cat's claw. What they do is combine some of the whole herb and some of the altered herb (standardized for the active ingredient) -- this way you know you are getting a potent product but it also includes all the synergistic ingredients put there by nature.

Its good to know that they are doing a study.
