Hi, I am new here, but not to LD. Just had a question. Has anyone used Biaxin w/Doxy? These 2 drugs show no interactions (on interaction checker)when used together, but I have not known of anyone to use this combo.
I have been on Amoxi first 3 months added Biaxin 6 months ago which got me 50% better, but I need to address the HGE. I have 2 LLMD's one suggest Rifampin - but I am afraid of nerve pain returning as this has been one of my major symptoms which is nearly gone on my current abx. I don't want to change at all but I have tested positive for HGE now so I have no choice, I guess.
Since I feel Biaxin in responsible for getting me this far, I am not ready to give it up. My other LLMD suggested dropping the Amoxi and just adding Doxy. Sounds simple, but I haven't heard of this combo.
Anyone ever used these together? Anyone know of a reason I shouldn't. Thanks in advance for replies.

I don't know the answer, I just must say that biaxin is also my miracle drug . . . for now. I'll watch your post with interest!

Hi, Yes Biaxin is a miracle drug, one of mhy LLMD's favorite to prescribe and he says not many know it kills LD, Bart and sometimes HME and HGE. To me it seems to be slow working but steadily making me better. I just can't believe both (agree) think I have plateaued. I think I am still gaining ground - slowly. (I have had a very extremely painful case of LD/co-infections) That is why it is so hard to quit, I feel better almost 50% of the time.
Figures I'd have to start Doxy in the summer, but too hot here anyway to be in the sun.
I have heard of Biaxin alone and Doxy alone but never together. I wonder why it isn't used more often really?
Hurtingramma, I have a ton of questions for you!
So you take Biaxin/Doxy/Plaquenil? Can you tell me at what doses? And it has worked good? Please tell me more, how long have you done this combo? Has it gotten you well or near well? How bad is the herx? Has Doxy been rough on your stomach?
3 days on doxy twice a day 500 mg; off 2 days; 3 days on biaxin " " 100 off 2 days;
then began doxy again; this went on for 20 months until i saw 2nd llmd who took me off them and put me on 6 months of 22 supplements which made me WORSE! fatigue unbelievable now.

Hi Betty, I appreciate it very much, but I actually am so well educated in LD I have recently started an LD informational website about this disease. But thanks so much, you are very kind.
I personally just have this unique problem of not being able to stop Biaxin (like my body is dependent) and thought adding Doxy would be much simplier and cause less nerve pain than just a cold hard jump to Rifampin. So, I thought I'd jump over here to get some opinions on this particular combination.
Burrascano's treatment guidelines don't mention this combo and in all the contact I have had w/other lymies, I have never heard of a doxy/biaxin combo.
I have met other's who use and love this forum, so I just had to see if anyone here had used it.
To read my story it can be read online this month a Public Health Alert .org pages 6 and 17.

I was on both Biaxin and Doxy, along with Mepron, Artemisia, Omnicef, and Probenecid. My LLMD has switched me over to Mino for the summer because Doxy makes you very sun-sensitive.

Hi sixgoofykids, Thanks for your reply do you think (or know) that this combo has helped you?

Doxy and Biaxin put myself, my husband and my son in to remission. Most of my friends are now taking the same combo. It is great....we all feel better than we have in years. It does work slowly, but if you take supplements, eat a good fresh veggie, fruits and high protein diet, with mild exercise you will regain a healthy state. We were all sick for over 10 years before we started on doxy. The Biaxin was added after the initial herxing, which for me was almost six months. Then slowly I started to feel good. At 18 months I turned a corner and that was five years ago and I'm still doing great.
Maybe this is a well kept secret or something?

Alexbabet, That is wonderful to hear!! What were your doses? My entire family has LD too, we have something in common, I am in the worst shape.
Please let me know the adult dosing you were on. Did you ever do Rifampin? I have a choice - Biaxin/Doxy or Rifampin. I am leaning towards Biaxin/Doxy and your message has helped me even more. THANK YOU!! Can't wait to hear more!

Actually I have a question for the biaxin users. Do you have a problem with a metallic taste in your mouth when you're on biaxin? I couldn't take the taste and didn't stay on it long, as I had another option at the time.
If you do have that taste, is there anything you can do to make it less, and on the other hand, does it go away with time?
Thanks.

Hi Ann, I have heard this a very common side effect. I have been lucky and not had the metal taste, which surprised my LLMD. Is the taste continuous? Or just aftter having it in your mouth and swallowing it? One girl described it was like sucking on a nickel. If you have just started it, it may go away, for others the metal taste can last the whole time you are on it.

I did get the metallic taste, but have been on it so long I no longer notice it. I'm sure it must still be there, but I really no longer taste it ... and it was so bad in the beginning that it would wake me up at night!
This combination has helped me. I started treatment in Jan. and was about 15%. Now I'm about 60%!!! I am on a lot of other meds though, so I can't say whether it's the doxy and Biaxin specifically.
I also have babs, so a lot of my improvement may come from those along with the Mepron and Artemisia.

hi Lymebytes
Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
Yes. It did really well for me,
and did kick some serious kete butt. And I feel the doxy may have hit some of my co's as well. Maybe this is why, on this combo, I had such bad herx's. But I did find some improvement with this combo.
Good luck & hang in there Dana
