Hi all,
My babs symptoms had disappeared after a year of Mepron/Malarone combos, but 4 - 5 months since stopping treatment babs has come roaring back.
Back to babs treatment I go...
I'm on omnicef and have just added zithromax, and feeling worse already. Yuck.
Will be re-starting Mepron in a few days, plus Plaquenil and Artemisinin in the following weeks.
For those of you who have treated babs multiple times after relapses - did you find that getting your symptoms under control took less time the second time around?
Just wondering what to expect, herx-wise, and hoping that it might be a tiny bit easier this time since my overall babs load should be a little lower than when I first started?
What was your experience?
Thanks! Cactus

Everytime I retreat my babs, I herx less and less. Maybe you can try adding septra to the mix. This drug has really helped me and from what my llmd says increases the effectiveness of the mepron. Good luck and feel better.

Great - herxing less is exactly what I was hoping to hear.
I'll ask about septra, too. We're adding plaquenil for the first time in a few weeks, too.
Going to kick the babs this time, Cactus

Yes, what were/are the doses?
Adding artemesia should help, and make sure you treat for long enough.

Hi Catus,
Yes. The second go round was the charm for me. The first didn't seem to stick..I firmly believe for me anyway that adding the artemisisin to my brew the second time around is what finally knocked it out. Knock on wood.
Hope the second time works for you also
Blessings & hang in there Dana

Thanks everyone. Hopefully adding in the Plaquenil and Artemisinin will help do the trick.
Both of those combos cleared up my babs symptoms, but I relapsed within 4 months or so.
This will be my 3rd time going back on babs treatment - ugh.
Will post my new dosages when I pick them all up, if anyone's interested... So far I've only added in the Zith (600mg)
Healthy wishes to all!

Red blood cells have a 120 day life cycle. For this reason many LLMD's treat babs for 4 or 5 months.
Hubby was allergic to Mepron, could not tolerate psych side effects from Larium so he treated with low dose Quinine and Clindamycin plus Artemesinin. The crazy thing is that the first treatment he just felt better and bnetter and never herxed. 2nd treatment with same meds stopped due to G.I. ulcers. Some mild herxing.
Currently trying low dose Quinine with Tetracycline first 2 months and now Minocycline -- worst herxes he has ever had and think the babs may have become resistant to Quinine. Have added in the herbs Cryptolepsis, Spilanthes, Prickly Ash and Gotu Kola to try to get things under control. Hubby says he feels the worst he has felt in the entire 6 years he has been ill.
