Okay here we go again!

So today I call Dr K, from Mercy Care, whom I've been seeing for years. I explain I have a bladder infection and need to come in. The nurse calls me back and explains that since I've seen another Dr. that Dr. K would no longer like to see me. She said when a patient sees another Dr there's usually some reason that that person does that. (Whatever that means!)

Now does someone with cancer not go to see an oncologist? Does someone with brain problems not go see a neurologist? I have Lyme, I have a lyme DR. But now I'm being punished for having Lyme, even though SHE diagnosed me with it and cannot get treated for a bladder infection unless I drive two hours to my Dr in Fond Du Lac that treats Lyme.

The other issue is that my two kids have her and my daughter needed an appoinment for recheck on an ovarian cyst. The nurse refused to make that appoinment too.

I have lost all faith in Drs and our health system. If Bush would get his head out of his a** maybe he would start paying attention to whats going on in his own country!

Well...join the club. My last doctor did not refuse to see me...she just told me she didn't want to hear ANYTHING about my Lyme! She made visits to her very unpleasant...she might as well have told me to get lost!

I finally found a doctor who will work with my llmd. You need to look for another doc. These docs do not want anything to do with lyme patients. We can thank IDSA for that!

I wish you luck...it took me awhile, but I am very happy I made the search!

Lisa,

It sounds like this doctor wasn't worth keeping around anyways. Is there a health clinic or urgent care center in your area where you can go to get treatment for the bladder infection?

Depending on how long you have been treting lyme your bladder infection maybe yeast if it is take at least 9 acidophilis capsuls over the coarse of a day split them up to 3 at a time and eat lots of yogurt you may have a yeast infection in your bladder??? from killing all the good flora in your system. Iam nopt a Dr though just know its worked for others or call LLmd and get some diflucan too for yeast discuss it with your LLMD.

Lisa,

In your state, don't they have to give like a "30-day notice" before they can stop seeing an existing patient?

In California, docs can't just drop seeing one of their patients. They have to send a letter giving the patient a 30-day (?) notice for them to find another doc.

Probably the medical board in your state would have this legal info.

I just got off the phone with an ombudsman and she said there's nothing I can do about it. She said that she will help me find another Doc. In the meantime I think I will take the advise above and take some extra Probiotics and if that doesn't start helping I'll go to urgent care. Why didn't I think of that? Duh, stupid brain fog.

Very unprofessional, IMO. My PCP was elated when I found a LLMD to help with my treatment. He was also very happy that I finally had a positive WB, since he had treated me for over 2 yrs with abx including IVs with 2 neg Lab Corp test. Took some possible heat off him.

It's a good idea to have an immedicate care place take care of your bladder infection today. Start shopping for another doctor tomorrow. You didn't lose much.

[group hug] [kiss] [group hug] lisa, you don't deserve this and neither do we!! yes, you are NOT losing much except for the inconvenience and timing of this all.

you got excellent advise from above.

for 5 days starting last wed., i made 4 calls prior to my 5th today to make ONE APPT., and receptionist can't make it; the urogynecology RN does these only and has NOT RETURNED A CLL TO ME IN 5 DAYS! I'm POed to say the least.

called again asking if anyone else in this office does this specialty; no, only her; she they have me. otherwise it's another 1.5 drive over that to des moines or mayo clinic. i let her know i thought it was very rude of this rn not to return my 4 calls in 5 days!!

i'd also contact your federal senator/rep and state senator/rep letting them know about the LACK of health care you didn't get. best wishes lisa for RELIEF SOON! [group hug] [kiss]

LisaS, your story shocked me, even after hearing hundreds of horror stories about the mainstream. The fact that the "doctor" refused to see your daughter, too, is outrageous! [Mad]

Us Lymies sure do get backed into a lot of corners.

I once had a GP who was sympathetic to me when I first went to see him. I told him I have chronic Lyme and wanted to know where he stood on the issue. He said he had no problem working with me and my LLMD as he'd worked with many children with Lyme at a pediatric hospital in NJ.

Well, when I developed severe muscle spasms and ended up in the hospital, his associate, a senior member of the group practice, came to see me and told me if I didn't stop "faking seizures" and go to a psychiatrist then I would have to leave the practice. When I later confronted the originally sympathetic GP, he told me that nobody shakes their body like I do.

I was deeply disappointed at his betrayal and left the practice feeling like I'd had my heart ripped out.

There's just not many doctors in my hometown who will work with my LLMD. There's a "good old boy" atmosphere here. I did find a "maverick" GP who works with my LLMD, thank goodness, but if she ever turns on me like the first doctor did, then I don't think I'll be able to find another one. And my LLMD won't accept me as a patient if I don't have a GP! Catch-22!

Just an opinion here.

Be careful with your bladder infection. If it is not caused by yeast, you want to be sure to take the correct med to get rid of it. Untreated bladder infections can go to your kidneys.

I had bladder infection when I was pregnant and asked if I could try to cure it with cranberry juice. The resounding "NO" was because of a potential kidney infection.

Lisa,

that is a shocking story -- it amazes me how incredibly unethical your doctor is acting in refusing to see you and your daughter.

Although I guess with the IDSA's treatment of lyme patients, nothing should shock me anymore!

I would write a complaint to your State Medical Board, when you have time. Who ever heard of a doctor refusing to treat the relative of a person because that person is seeing a specialist.

For your bladder infection, perhaps in the meantime, you can find another GP.

And try drinking pure (no sugar or additives) cranberry juice mixed with water. It is supposed to help with bladder infections.

Sorry to hear about your experience with this unethical doctor!

LisaS,
Sorry you had to deal with such a jerk. The least she could have done is tell you face to face.

It's not just lyme patients that have this problem. My dad was in kidney failure due to diabetes. His GP kept telling him that it wasn't painful to die of kidney failure. [cussing]

My husband and I took dad to a kidney specialist. Turns out he needed dialysis. The next time my father went to the pharmacy to renew his nitro for his heart - they refused. The doctor was dropping my father because he was going to a kidney specialist 200 miles away!!

I guess his plans were to allow my father to die of kidney failure!!!! Egocentric, insane behavior.

Glad she showed herself before something serious came up. She's probably trying to cover her a$$ in her own rude way.

Terry

Oooooooooh! How INFURIATING!!!!

Cranberry Capsules and Vit C will help, but definitely go to a walk-in or urgent care.

Good Luck!

Well thanks for all the advise all. And if anyone gets grossed out easy please stop reading this now. It is embarrassing to write this but hey, with Lyme I think we all know what humiliation means... so if you don't want to read about female problems read no further...

Okay I went to urgent care. The Dr walked in teh room and said oh, Ive seen you before. He listened to my heart and that was all. Oh and ordered a urinalysis.

The UA came back negative for bacteria. This is the second time now in about six months this has happened.

Despite the negative UA he prescribed me Ciprofloxan. So I go to the pharmacy to fill it. While I was standing there I felt like you would feel if pregnant and your water broke. Im not pregnant.

This yellow watery stuff ran down my leg. I ran to the bathroom and called my gynecologist and a nurse called me back and said, just take the Cipro and call us tomorrow.

Is this normal? Has anyone ever had this?

Like I said this is embarrassing but this is the only place I can come for advice and I'm really scared. My stomach is cramping up but its not as bad as it was for an hour or so. It's starting to lighten up now.

Could this be a cyst bursting?

Lisa,

Two things come to mind, could any abx already in your system have caused a false negative UTI test result?

What about "IC"--forget how to spell it out, you can search here for it. But terrible problems with bladder (a lot of Lyme/Babs patients seem to get it).

Lymetoo can explain it. Also, I think, cantgiveupyet. Trying to think of who else has mentioned this . . .

I've been off all abx for a month. My llmd has me on cholesterine because my VEGF test showed that my body wasn't removing toxins quick enough. (Cholesterine helps with this)

So chol is the only thing Im on besides Allicidin. I havent even been taking my supplements because my stomach has been burning so bad.

And when I say that, that's a completely different issue than the stomach pain Im having now. Today the pain is in my lower abdomen.

It is subsiding now. But I think I may be starting to herx from the abx. I'm not sure if it can cause that so fast but Im getting a heavy like feeling in my muscles and thats what i usually get when I start to herx.

Lisa,

Sometimes I would think I had a urinary tract infection and when they tested the urine they found yeast but no bacteria. Did they check for yeast? Hiker

Yes they checked for yeast and that was negative too. I'm starting to think I might have a uterine cyst that burst or something.

But Im having something spasm feeling that makes me feel like I gotta pee. I dont know. Im scared, this is a new thing that's happening today. And I thought I had seen it all.

I am on Allicidin and cholesterine which are both supposed to help with yeast.

Whoa, Lisa, that's awful!!! You shed some light on what happened to me. My GP wanted NOTHING to do with Lyme. I tried to make an appt. to see him and he said, "No!" Actually, the "no" came through his nurse They said because of my heart problems he wasn't capable of treating me. But he knew of my heart problems from the start and it didn't bother him at all then. Well, now I know. We're in a tough situation. It's been over a year and I still do not have a GP. I tried 4 different ones.

Regarding that fluid that went down your leg, could you take a sample in for testing? It might tell them something if you still have it. It kind of sounds like a cyst to me, too.

Are you feeling any better?

If were you, I would definitely file a complaint with the Medical Review Board that the dr. didn't see your dd. That's a legitimate complaint. The dr. has no grounds to refuse her.

Kayda

Hi Kayda,
She could refuse seeing my daughter. Ya see oddly enough a couple weeks ago my daughter who is 15 started getting stomach pain. I called her pediatrician and he said she needs to see a Dr for older children now.

At the time it made sense, this also happened recently with my son, both with his pediatricain and his cardiologist. I thought cuz they were getting older right?

So in order to see this Dr, the one that refused to see me today, we had to make a new patient appointment. I called and made it but it is a month off. So officially this Dr isnt my daughters Dr yet.

And you know what, she never will be. I need to start looking I guess.

My daughter had a bullseye rash last summer. I wasnt diagnosed yet and didnt know about these rashes. But just a coule months ago knowing what I know now, I questioned her pediatricain.

He admitted that even though the ER doc put down spider bite that it was probably a tick bite. But that was the last time he saw my daughter.

But looking at the big picture, both my kids pediatricians, my sons cardiologist, and now my general practioner, all have gotten rid of us all within the last couple months. All work in the same office ont he same floor.

I dont want to read more into it than what it is. But I think its kind of obvoius whats going on. To us lymies anyways.

Sorry you had to go thru this but nothing suprises me anymore. I just pick myself up and get back out there again.

since being sick ive had two primary care dr go out of practicing(one was a dr ive had for 15 years) tough loss because he was one of the good guys.

For the bladder and your other symptoms, have you had a gyno do any cultures, could be bacterial vaginosis, which can affect the bladder (it did for me) or of course yeast...but you should make sure. Cipro will not help either of those.

Tabytaber- good memory! I do have IC(and i have no clue how to spell it)

Its basically inflamation of the bladder, something made the lining of the bladder erode in certain areas, so they cause pain.

Has your frequency increased?

if you think it is ic, you can check out www.ic-network.com or wwww.ic-help.com

I was at the gyn last week and everything came back normal. And she weems to have a lot of interest in this Lyme thing. She is the only

one who asks me lot s of questions and seemed unawatre of the controversy with it. But all my tests came back normal. I dont know where this

pain is coming from. I cant even say its pain. Its like a weird numbness yet a pressure where my bladder is.

I guess its just one of our weird symptoms that goes unanswered. For now at least. The rest of the stuff that happened today ive never had before and I hope it just goes away and doesnt return!

Dear Lisa,

I have never heard such a thing.

Wow. That jerk doctor must have this huge ego thing.

What I think they forget is that they actually work for us.

We pay their paychecks.

They think it is the other way around....

I would slam-dunk this duck so fast it would make his head spin.

I definitely would write a letter to the state medical review board and CC a copy to his office.

Wonder where these egotistical jerks get the idea that they can "refuse" to treat a patient....

That is so reminiscent of high school....like an interaction between adolescent couples or something.

Well, at least he did you a favor.....lead you straight away from him where your health or lack thereof

Was NEVER his priority.....

I am glad your OB was curious about Lyme...

Mine wasn't....Just wanted to know who my LLMD was, where was his office, etc.

I told him to just do the pap smear, or I would find someone else....

This is the man who delivered both my babies.

As infuriating as your encounter with this GP duck was.....something about it makes me want to laugh.

What an insecure idiot!

Better days and times are coming for you. Hang in there.

Sending you positive thoughts and prayers.

Hugs,

Geneal

Lisa-

Do you have Neuro Lymes?

I ask because it sounds like you may have a neurogenic bladder. The pain you feel could be bladder spasms.
Start tracking your voids and how much ( large, mediums, small). Track if/when you have the urge to go. With a neurogenic bladder, the signal back and forth from your bladder and brain is messed up. Sometimes your brain does not get the signal that it is time to pee (when bladder has 300-500 cc) or it thinks it has to go all of the time, even when it is not full.

I do have neuro lyme. Geez when I go back and read my posts, I can see how bad it is. I reverse letters constantly. I dont even notice when I proof read it. But the next day, wow can't believe it.

The thing is with this Dr, and she's a she by the way' She is not even there right now. She is on maternity leave. So she would not even of had to see me yesterday, it would of been the Dr replacing her.

But the nurse wouldnt even set up an appoinment with the on call Dr. Or for that matter simply just call in a Urinalysis. So I guess the Dr really let it be known that she did not want to see me again. (Or anyone in my family)

Oh well, Ive been on the phone all day with a medicaid rep trying to figure out another Dr. I'm just going to opt out of the Mercy Care HMO since Ive had nothing but bad experiences with all the Drs in regards to Lyme.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I really appreciate it!

Can't help but notice you are in Wisconsin, and also that the "witch hunt" for LLMDs has started recently in Wisconsin. I'm not excusing the actions of the doc, but when people start to fear for their own professional livelihood and future, they can act irrationally. The docs are downstream from the "healthcare system" we live in, just like us.

LisaS,
I'd have to agree that they have discussed you in their little group of doctors and decided to remove you from their practice. I've seen it happen before. It's not uncommon in smaller medical communities for the whole community to refuse to accept a particular patient.

Doctors are not obligated to accept anyone as a patient. It is their decision, just like a mechanic or any other service provider can refuse to provide service to any individual they choose. I would guess that the only way they can get into trouble for refusing service is if they put your life in danger by refusing to treat you when you are already an established patient. Even then, hard to say if the patient would prevail. Just my opinion from what I've seen.

Check with your local lyme group for a doctor who is lyme friendly and willing to accept lyme patients.

I have Interstitial Cystitis (IC). If you aren't sure what your bladder problem is and your results are all negative, consider seeing a urologist to be evaluated.

Hope you feel better soon!!

Terry

Don't doctors take a hypocratic oath or something like that?

Doesn't that mean that they won't refuse treatment to someone who needs it?

I'm sorry you are having to go through this. I hope you can find a good doctor soon.
