I'm not quite sure I have a coinfection but I sure do have all the symptoms of babs or maybe bart, heck, I don't know. All I know is that something is screwy here. My doc said I have "straight lyme no co-infec."
My igenex test came back negative for babs and ech, but I'm not sure how accurate it is.
Can a co-infection show up later and should you be retested to see if it does?
What the best meds for babs?
I have ceftin and amoxy. My doc said I could take the ceftin twice a day and the amoxy 3 times a day if it works.
So geez, guys, how I am supposed to know what works for babs and what doesn't? he said my igenex was negative for it, so, i.e., I don't have it.
Sometimes I just think he doesn't know his ___ from a hole in the ground. Sorry.......
But co-infections are hard to find right?

My one son's first llmd had him do a kind of babs challenge test by using artemesinin 3x daily. His musle pains increased and she used this in making a decision to treat with a mepron protocol.

My LLMD diagnosed me with babs based on my symptoms. The tests are notoriously false negative.
I had air hunger and night sweats, along with other symptoms that overlap with Lyme, which I have, too.
I'm taking Mepron and Biaxin for babs. Also Artemisia.

Most all of us have co-infections. Think about it. Ticks are filthy bacteria ridden parasites that live in the dirt and feed off the blood of other animals. We have only identified a handful of the infectious agents in ticks. many more are surely in the ticks and are undiscovered.
If you have co-infection symptoms, you should be treated clinically. How does your doc know what you have? The ignorance is rediculous!
Best meds Zithromax/Mepron/Artemesia
or Malarone/Biaxin/Plaquenil and artemesia Quina!

randibear,
What Babs test specifically did you test for?
I always came up negative on the "regular" Babs tests and even IGeneX Babs FISH. But when my LLMD tested me for Babs WA-1, it came back positive.

B microti is one type of babs. There is also babs WA-1, you have to get tested thru Igenex or directly from the state lab at CA.

Very frustrating-yes. Don't be too harsh on the ol' doc. There is very little research done on effective lyme treatments, and even less done on babesia. I think perhaps in a few years (if the LLMDs aren't rounded up and jailed!) we may have a better idea of what works. Seems like now we are feeling our way in the dark.
