Can anyone give some suggestions or ideas on what the best diet is for Lyme sufferers?

This was discussed a few days ago with many differing opinions. I'll try to find it for you.

Rooster,

I am not aware of a particular "lyme" diet but there are many opinions about what is the healthiest diet. You do need to eat as healthy as possible.

Whether you choose vegan (no animal products) vegatarian (allows diary and eggs and sometimes fish) or you choose the high protein, low carb diet, (lots of meat)you will find they all have this in common.

No sugar and No processed foods.

Be sure whatever you eat grew that way. Figs grew that way, Fig Newtons did not. Pot Roast and ham grew that way, Hot Dogs did not.

Avoid preservatives and chemicals in foods.

Range fed meat is expensive and scarce but well worth it. This means the animal was fed a natural diet, not high grains, abx and steroids to make them as fat as possible for market. What they eat becomes what we eat.

Eat your veggies and fruits organic when possible. Don't buy the prepackaged veggies with all kinds of sauces on them. The sauces are deadly. Wash all foods thoroughly even the organic ones and avoid Genetically Modified foods altogether.

The less humans had to do with creating it, the better.

Nuts are a perfect snack as long as you aren't allergic to them. Which brings up a good point. Find a doctor who specializes in nutritional training to help you identify any food allergies you may have.

We can be allergic to foods and not know it because we don't have the obvious allergic reaction. In fact, we will crave the very foods we are allergic too. Problem with eating these foods is that they cause damage to the gut followed by illness in the body. Immune system becomes compromised and I promise you, those of us suffering from food allergies are the most suspeptable to illness from bacteria like lyme.

That is why two people can be bitten and one will have no reaction while another becomes sick.

Proper nutrition and diet is essential for all of us to heal from whatever and for healthy people to remain healthy and avoid many of the ills commonly attributed to aging.

My 80 yr old mother has no joint pain, no high blood pressure, no high cholestrol and takes no medications of any kind. She rarely has to see a doctor. Her mother lived to 103 and up to age 99 also had no illness. My husband used to love to watch my grandmother hop in and out of the car. She was in her 90's. At 99 she suffered some mini strokes which put her into dementia.
Pretty good track record, huh?

How I wish I had the same health, but I was a victim of our times. A supermom who for a time was also a single supermom. High stress and too much processed foods did me in allowing the lyme to take hold in my body.

Luvs
