Sorry to be contrarian, but I have a problem with the reporting.
1) I suspect that person also had babesia and other coinfections. Particularly babesia given the sweats etc. 2) It seems implied but not lingered on, that the heavy-duty medications he was given finished him off. What was his drug regimen, both before he was diagnosed and after? Perhaps he was weakened by steroids or other immunosuppressive drugs. And then maybe was given IV antibiotics. I sometimes gape in amazement at the drug regimens folks are on and don't know how they sustain such high doses of so many drugs. I hand it to them for having the genetics to handle it but there are many stories of folks who can't. We need to tread carefully before just pouring drugs into somebody already ill.
It's hard to do very in depth precise reporting in a short newspaper story but this raises many questions for me and I think they are important questions.
