Hi, I know many have taken Doxy/Amoxi together. When you look up on drug interactions checkers it says these 2 shouldn't be taken together.
I am having a problem decreasing Biaxn/Amoxi my pain increases horribly - but I MUST either get on either Rifampin or Doxy. One LLMD suggests to just stay on what I am on and add the Doxy. This seems like abx overload - but I may have no choice.
These are 2 interaction checkers results:
AMOXICILLIN may interact with DOXYCYCLINE
When taken together, doxycycline may decrease the ability of amoxicillin to kill bacteria. If this happens, amoxicillin will be less effective at fighting an infection. If possible, avoid using doxycycline while taking amoxicillin. Ask your healthcare provider about these drugs and this potential interaction as soon as possible.
This interaction is poorly documented and is considered major in severity. -------------------------- Second checker
doxycycline and amoxicillin (Moderate Drug-Drug)
GENERALLY AVOID: Tetracyclines may reduce the effect of penicillins by inhibiting cellular protein synthesis which is necessary for cell wall synthesis inhibition by penicillins. Antagonism is more likely when low doses of either agent are administered. Therapeutic failure may result.
MANAGEMENT: This combination should be avoided if possible.
