My new LLMD wants me to start this while waiting for my test results. It may be 7 weeks before I see him again. I have been reading the past entries, and am concerned because many say to take it with antibx.
I am currently on a break from antibx while waiting for test results. Can someone please explain to me the best way to take ARtemisinin and if you think it is okay to take alone.
Actually I will be starting Cat's claw with it if that has any impact.
Also, what is the best way to dose it. The nurse wasn't very clear - just wants me to work up to 5 capsules (100 mg each) per day. Should I take with or without food? Any nutrient interactions?
Thanks!

My LLMD had me start with 100 mg a day, at a meal and move up by 100 mg each week at meals. I am now taking 300 mg/day, which is where he wants to me stay. I'm also on several other things.
If you are uncertain about the directions I would call the office and ask for clarification.
My LLMD always prints out instructions for new meds and anything else he wants me to do differently. He knows how poor our memories are, or at least mine is!

I took Artemisinin alone prior to starting the rest of my Babs meds.
I was told to take one at bed and one on waking on an empty stomach.
I suspect you will hear all different variations. Many pulse it as well.
As far as I've been able to tell from past posts is not to take it with fish oil as it makes it more potent and the stuff is pretty potent on it's own.
My non-medical advice would be to call and check exactly how they want you to take it and then start slow and work up. It packed a more powerful punch than I was expecting. But that could be just me.
Good luck, I hope it helps!

Thanks for the replies! I am still so confused about whether or not to take it without an antibiotic. Which antibiotics are recommended with artemisinin?

LZO, I'm glad you asked this question, I've got a few bottles staring at me, too - not sure how to take it either. I'm due to try it again any day now.
I've used it briefly in the past (took it with food) and it was too intense - so work your dose up slowly.
True, about the fish oil - is it ok to take fish oil a few hours apart from the artemisinin or should we forego the fish oil altogether while on art?
I also think artemisinin is one of the meds/herbs whose action is increased by grapefruit, although you might want to double check me on that. Maybe till you know for sure, go easy on the grapefruit?
Maybe the Cat's Claw would help with preventing resistance if you're not on abx?
Hope this works well for you, Cactus
