I have posted Dr. Derksen's presentation so far. I started on a summary of the conference and am at about 30 pages with only 3 sessions so far that I could get done on the three flights home yesterday. I will work on it over the next days and couple of weeks and then post notes similar to those I posted last year. At least that's the plan.... The Derksen slides are really quite good though and they are there now!

Scott, awesome! thanks for posting Dr Derksen's slides. I look forward to reading the rest of your report...thanks for doing all this work for us
sorry to stray off topic, but do you or anyone else here know why she recommends avoiding psyllium? is it b/c of the allergy potential or something else?

I saw my LLMD on Monday and he had been there over the weekend. He was still digesting everything he had taken in, but I could tell he had learned a lot and was planning on incorporating it into his treatment.
He even emailed Monday night with a change in instructions for some testing he wants me to have done, and I think it was a result of the conference.
I'm looking forward to learning more about it all. With my move this year I didn't' have the extra $$ for the conference. I'm hoping I'll be able to attend next year, since it's local for me.

Psyllium contains gluten I believe.
Her specific reasoning was that over time it builds up deposits in the colon in many people and she prefers not to use it.

Psyillium does NOT have any gluten in it. Some Dr's don't like to use it because it can be a little harsh for some people to handle....so they use acacia or flax seed instead. If you tolerate it, there is no need to stop it just because this Nd doesn't recommend it.

Many unknowingly take psyllium alone without drinking a lot or enough water with it. Then it can turn into a big problem, a real big problem. No doctor wants to cause adding to the damage.
Side Effects and Safety:
Psyllium must be taken with adequate water or it may cause obstruct the colon and cause constipation.
Psyllium powder may trigger asthma attacks in people with asthma.
Allergic reactions to psyllium have been reported.
People with diverticular disease should only use psyllium under a doctor's supervision.
Psyllium should not be taken within two hours of taking medication as it may decrease the absorption of the medication.
Psyllium can be the best colon cleanser if combined with other substances, as for instance, in the Colonix by Dr.Natura, flax seed, fennel seed, licorice root, aloe vera, grapefruit pecting, papaya fruit, slippery elm bark, marshammlow root, rhubarg root, alfalfa, guar gum, peppermint leaf and uva ursi leaf.
In that combination it is the best colon cleanser I have ever tried -- I have done a few! It is amazing what accumulates (plaque) in a short period of time when wheat and dairy is part of the diet, or grain for that matter. We do this psyllium combi frequently, even though I feel we have a sound diet. Anyone on a Western diet, never having done it before , will quickly find out what contributes to ill health in a big way. Health starts in the colon.
Sorry for the side theme.
Take care.

Scott, Ticktoxic and GiGi - thanks for all the info on psyllium. I take it with other fiber (and lots of water) so I hope that helps prevent any obstruction. And I did a quick google search and couldn't find anything about it containing gluten. Some things cross-react though, so who knows. thanks again

I attended this conference and I thought it was awesome. If you guys ever get the chance to go to one, I highly recommended it.
Just being in a room with so many others who are going through the same challenges is amazing. Walking in felt like a group hug!
I thought the presentations were well-done and informative. Traditional and alternative treatments were discussed. I believe that all presenters agreed that supporting the immune system is crucial to recovery. Dr. B. stated that you cannot get well without exercise.
Also discussed was that hormones can be affected by tick-borne illnesses. A few doctors talked about the prevelence of co-infections and how having them can make symptoms of all the diseases worse.
Open-Eye Pictures show about 30 minutes of the "Under Our Skin" documentary. It is excellent and will educate a lot of people. The producer said they still need about $100,000 to complete it, so if you know anyone who can donate it is a great cause.
There was a question and answer period after each presentation. I was really touched at how intelligent the questions were. I think it is testimony to what we have all gone through and have had to learn to get the help we needed.
