I had plantar fascitis 2 years ago. I was the youngest patient with it my ortho had ever seen. I had cortisone shots that didn't help, I used the cushioned foot soles, I had to wear a walking boot for about 4 months. It finally lasted a year.

He said he did everything accordingly and we tried everything the only thing left was surgery. I was sent for a second opinion to make sure he had done everything and it was the last option.

Then, I had a nerve test to check for nerve damage that would need fixing during surgery and I had surgery about a year after it first started.

But, it was successful and it hasn't hurt since. Except standing for a really long time, but most everyone else gets that as well. But no pain like before at all.

Good luck!

Physical therapy made this go away for me, after only about 3-4 sessions.

Basically, they taught me how to stretch my calves and leg muscles every morning and many times during the day.

I had it pretty bad, and I highly recommend finding a physical therapist to work with.

I had it several years ago in both feet (at the same time).

I had cortisone shots in both feet (at the same time [Frown] ), which DID NOT HELP and hurt like heck!

What did help was wearing orthotics (I had some made to fit my feet) all the time. The doctor told me to NOT walk barefoot, even in the house, so I got a pair of Birkenstocks to wear as slippers around the house and I wore the orthotics in my fitness shoes the rest of the time.

The stretching and exercises they gave me were also helpful.

I was also told to rest them (my feet) as much as possible and to ice them. You can freeze a water bottle and roll your foot over it gently. That helps.

I was told to take anti-inflamatories, which I did for a couple of the worst weeks, but didn't the rest of the time.

I lost a little weight which also helped in my case.

My feet haven't hurt now in a few years, but I still try to stretch regularly and wear supportive shoes as much as possible.

Early on before I knew it was lyme I had a plantar taken out of the bottom of left foot...

These are common with lyme patients.

If you are talking about pain in the souls it is Bartonella.

VERY common lyme co-infection. You can find info on it with a search.

I should have mentioned I read once where a girl posted that her feet cleared up after a year on minocyclene. I am on the Marshall protocol and my feet pain cleared up and I was taking mino on the MP fpr about a year.

I think it takes long term treatment not a couple of months.

I had it a few years ago after Cipro.

Buy yourself some soft orthotics in a department store. Gel type are good. Should cost about $30-40. Wear WALKING shoes with air bubles. Buy new pair every few months as they loose the air and become less protective with time.
You may want to wear them also at home.

Don't walk on hard surface such as sidewalk or concrete. Also watch for hardwood floors. Walk on grass or carpets, bent your knees when walking so the impact on feet is smaller. Loose weight if you can. Don't carry heavy items such as shopping bags or backpacks. Use a little cart instead or luggage wheels.

You may check your hormons: thyroid, sex hormons etc.
Perhaps magnesium can help.
Also icepack interchangebly with heat may also help.

Took me a year to recover and made me really wise on the topic

Hi hanoverw/lyme

My heart goes out to you... [group hug]

I have been having really bad foot pain come back again ( in both feet). Each step I take is very painful. I also have joint pain in my toes.

Was wondering how a doctor would diagnosis plantar fascitis ? I have always asummed it is from my bart and or lyme infection.

Do you also have joint pain in your toes?

Pain in other bones in your feet too?

Could anyone with Plantar Fascitis please describe your foot pain in more detail.

I kinda think its from my bart because the bottom of my feet hurt & tingle as well. And when I rife & herx the pain gets worse.

But I would like to think this is something that could be helped with PT.

Take care & hope you can get relief soon [group hug]

Dana

The plantar faciitis started for me with morning stiffness in the achilles heel area. That area and the heel would be quite stiff and sore, but would feel okay as I moved around a bit.

That progressively got worse, then the facia on the bottom of both feet got inflamed...this is the tendon(??) that connects your heel to the balls of your feet (am I remembering that correctly, lol). The pain was intense and would worsen the longer I was on my feet.

The doctor (podiatrist) took xrays, but I'm not sure that was what was used to diagnose.

I don't have that pain at all anymore and while I haven't been tested for co-infections through blood testing, I have had an ART session which showed Bartonella.

I would think that if it was the Bart, I would still be feeling some pain in that area.

I DO have pain in my toe joints though...that MIGHT be the bart...it's a fairly new pain that's developed in the last year or so.

Oh, and I wanted to say that the pain I had when I had plantar faciitis...well I could definitely relate the pain to the spreading of my feet as I walked. With the arch supports in, my feet didn't hurt as much because they didn't flatten out or stretch as much.

As the wife of a Lyme patient, and not having been diagnosed with Lyme or any co-infections, I offer the following:

I suffered with Plantar Fascitis for about two years, seeing three doctors for it with no solution. Finally, one day while in the
Chiropractor's office, I asked what he knew about it. He adjusted my feet (a first for me), and then told me to go buy a pair of New Balance sneakers with "roll bars", wear them consistently, and that it would cure my problem. I did just that, and within just a few months, I was completely recovered, and am to this day, two years later, free of any foot pain. Be sure to go to a shoe store where you can be properly fitted with the shoes with the roll bars. There are several styles. They are rather expensive, but well worth every penny.

Hope this is of help to anyone with the problem, as it is very painful. By the way, I have passed this information along to a friend who got the shoes, wore them, and had the same result as I.

I have no connection to New Balance and do not gain in any way by recommending their product.

Nancy

Interesting to know what are "roll bars"

Internet search only brings that these are parts for some heavy duty trucks and sport cars.
No connection with sneakers.

Wocali,

I can't give you a total explanation only a theory.

In as much as lyme affects our nerves and tendons(among other things). I believe the plantars are just the immune system fighting

what it perceives as an alien bacteria...the killer cells must then start to create some sort of bypass for the tendon...

For me there was a lump and there was fibrous material attached to this lump on the tendon(nerve)under my left sole.

I was so not into any new pains and had seen a pod duck and tried all the prosthetics available that I opted to excise(surgical removal)the fascia.

Babeasia treatment took care of my plantar pain! It took a long time but it burned and sweat out and it's all gone now! I had the same pain at the base of my hands and neck too.

Check in with your LLMD and see if this makes sense for you.

I wish you well! [Smile]

My overly FLAT feet from birth hurt so bad the last few days. I was on them TOO much and I sure pay the price for that!! They hurt everywhere.

I had both feet operated on at once, one time long ago for Mortons Neuroma. They go in from the top of the foot between the second and third toes OR the third and fourth toes, go to the bottom of the foot and take out this NERVE.

For the next 4-6 weeks,,,you put ZERO weight on the front of your foot OR you pay big time, it will pain shoot you thru the roof. You get rather good at walking like a duck only on your heels and Zero,I mean nada weight on the toes.

Now SOMEBODY tell me how to get rid of this overuse pain that is eatting me up today!! I woke up this morning and could barely get to the bathroom.

Tommorrow morning will be worse,,,I can feel it already. then I go walk on them all day pounding the ground and they get WORSE. I thought they might get used to it,,,but they dont!!! Carrying anything is excruciating!!! remaining--just don--

my pain in generally in the heel area then running up the tendon towards your arch. i told above about being pain free with mobic, it didn't last, pain was back again at 2 am this morning. i am going to see if they can increase the dose. i was also told to ice the area at least three times a day. freeze a larger soda bottle and roll your foot back and forth on it. good luck.

working a little on cleaning up all my piles of paper stacked up while i'm on here! [Big Grin]

found this on this very subject:

EXERCISE to help ease plantar fasciitis:
**************************************

sit on the floor with your legs out in front of you, toes POINTING UP.

roll a towel into a tube lengthwise. holding the ends in each hand, place the towel OVER the balls of your feet.

apply gentle traction so that you feel your feet and achilles tendons getting a NICE STRETCH.

hold for 30 seconds, relax, and do it again and again.

over time, this exercise helps to improve the flebility of the achilles tendons and plantar fascia, which helps alleviate symptoms! [Wink]

My husband was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. After 5 months of various treatments, he got an MRI. It turns out he does NOT have plantar fasciitis, but has a very inflammed tendon which attaches to the middle of the arch, and the symptoms mimic plantar fasciitis. His podiatrist put him into a walking boot.

Also, he was taking samento for a long time, and this has recently come up as having similar bad effects on tendons as Cipro!!

We cut that out right away, and 24 hours later, he was already doing better.

Best,

Cass A
