Been in treatment for a year for Bart and Lyme. Finished the Bart treatment and started treatment two and a half months ago for Babs. 1000 mg of Malarone daily and am on Doxy 400 daily. before Babs treatment I was doing well. Still had some twitching and tinnitus, but overall much better. Then 5 weeks ago started to have leg pain when I sat or laid down too much. Then a week ago, I started to feel awful and tested positive for anemia. I don't have any fever but feel like I have the flu in that weird achy way. My leg muscle pain and butt muscle pain are constant and sometimes so bad. And today i discovered a red spot on my stomach. Not a big one, but noticeable and the weirdest symptom is that my thumb really hurts as if I really banged it but I didn't. I stopped the Malarone two days ago because i felt like it was making things so much worse. I have contacted my LLMD but have not heard back from him yet. I started thinking maybe I have some other horrible disease too. I just have never felt this bad for this long. Could it be the Malarone and a bad side effect? Please help. Thank you.

Sounds like babs. I get the thumb pain, too.

Contacting your LLMD is a good idea, but I personally wouldn't stop the meds. I would if there was an allergic reaction, but this sounds more herx-like.

Wow! I can't believe it. I went from feeling so good to feeling like hell everyday. How long does the herx with this last??? My other question is how could I have felt like I was almost out of the wooods for many months and I have never had this kind of pain before and then treat Babs ( clinical diag by the way) and feel like this? And what the heck is that thumb thing? Thanks guys...don't know what I would do without everyone here.

You would have though I had written this!!!!!!

I started treatment for babs 2 months ago and have really gone downhill - I have the red spots on my body come up (I di a post here about it) and apparantly its called Peteciae and is common in babs herx. My thumbs are killing me, and I can visably see my leg muscles jumping and they are totally exhausted. I also feel like a total emotional fruitcake

Hang in ther as your not alone - I was told it gets beeter in the 4-5 Month
