.
It's part of the Disautonomia, hypotension problem with lyme.
A tilt table test can confirm this.
It was explained this way; The brain is supposed to tell the veins to constrict when sitting and more so when standing. Instead it tells the veins to dilate when they should constrict. It's a miscommunication from the brain.
The veins are in a constant state of dilation.
This can cause the dizziness and fainting so common with lyme.

I think I have had lyme disease way longer then when I first had a bulls eye rash and horrible symptoms because I have had lots of blue veins for a long time. Not one of my doctors has ever mentioned them to me but I am sure they have seen them.

Thanks Al for the info.

Come to think of it True Blue I have become so old - I think I am 17 now that I have forgotten where I have put my birth certificate.

Yup, I'd say part of life.

Even at 16!!! Or 17!!!

Just a question - did the veins only appear since you were diagnosed/ill? I'm not sure what kind of blue veins you are talking about, but it is completely normal for (especially thin) people to see veins underneath their skin. This typically has more to do with the amount of adipose tissue (read as: fat) under your skin, then lyme. Remember that venous blood is blueish before being exposed to outside oxygen, hence "blue veins" under your skin.

If its a strange venous pattern, spider veins or something like that... who knows. But normal "blue veins" doesn't really have anything to do with lyme.

Vanilla,
I had the same thing happen to me when I first got really sick. It was as if my veins came to the surface of my skin and they were suddenly VERY noticeable. I asked my doctor what it meant and he said he could see them but didn't know what it meant.

It could be related to the autonomic problem that Al mentions because I had that quite severely although undiagnosed at the time.

The super blue veins, close to the surface of my skin was not normal ageing for me and it was not related to fat deposits since I don't have it anymore and I am 20 years older and fatter too! I do have the orthostatic problem under control so perhaps that is why the veins have gone back to normal?

Perhaps you should consider being evaluated for orthostatic hypotension?

Hope you get if figured out.

Terry

I use to be thin and always had blue veins since I was old enough to notice these things but about a year ago I noticed more of a road map effect on my right chest which I showed to my first LLMD and he made no comment on the subject. I was diagnosed about a year ago too. First for babs and then following with LD and now bart.

I think I will point it out to my current LLMD next time I see him in 2 and a half months and see if he is concerned about it. I think I will talk to my Tibetan doctor about it too.
