I'm only guessing that I might have babs. I tested negative through Igenex and don't get night sweats.

I did the 3 liters of tonic water a day and had what I think was a definite reaction. (very odd feeling in top left side of head/scalp,odd sensation around left eye socket, backs of elbows had pulling slightly achy feeling, pressure headache with lots of anxiety and heart pounding, achy knees)

I'm wondering if since quinine brought out some symptoms I don't normally have and haven't ever had before as a herx while on antibiotics--does this mean I might have babs?

And should I take prescription meds?

I suppose I should just ask my LLMD but thought someone might have had a similar experience.

Could just drinking a certain amount of quinine every day get rid of it especially since I must not have a bad case of it (ie no night sweats or fever)

hi Marz

Personally I don't have much faith in lab tests for the co-infections as well as the lyme.

I did however test positive to babs but did not have the "night sweats" . Have read alot of other posts here & this does seem common...not everyone with babs gets the night sweats. But durning treatment for babs I sweated gallons.

The treatment was cut short because of stomach problems but I did mangage to get rid of my constant low grade fevers.

I think the reaction you had has some merit & you should definitely talk to your LLMD about a possible trial run with some babs meds.

Good luck & hope you are feeling better soon [group hug]
Dana

none of the above is medical advise...just my 2 cents

would Zith 500 mg/day + 600-1000 mg/day of artemesinin be considered a trial run?

I didn't get the sweats until I started treating babs, and then WHAM.

That sounds like way too much artemisinin. I take 100 mg, three times daily.

I developed more sweats with just teh art, then added in clarithromycin (Biaxin, generic) and they have increaed. Will add Mepron after vacation.

I would personally not try art without a LLMD's supervision. Just my perosnal opinion.

I decided not to test for babs because of the false negitive rate.

I've been on Malarone and Biaxin for 3 weeks now. This regimen has totally wiped out the depression and anxiety that was killing me.

As far as night sweats.. I never got them until I started treating for babs. Even then it only lasted for about a week.. but I would soak the bed and pillow. Today I still sweat while sleeping but not to that extreme.

26 months of treatment. And counting.......

I had very few Babs symptoms, but decided to treat with herbs (Buhner) anyway. I got GREAT relief with Artemisinin at a lower dose than you are taking--I was taking what Buhner recommends in the book Healing Lyme. Some actual physical happiness--was much more cheerful, interested in things around me, etc. I consider this treatment to have been the most dramatic improvement I'd experienced to date.

Dr. K recommends a different dose of Artemisinin (higher than Buhner), with follow-on treatments of short duration (3 days or so). He also recommends PC-Noni as a long-haul Babesia handling. I've never tried this.

Buhner is now recommending cryptolepsis tincture for babesia--you can read about that at the Planet Thrive website.

I have now done one 30-day Art, two shorter higher-dose runs with it per Dr. K, and one 15 day cryptolepsis treatment. I definitely have some symptoms that are truly gone--out of balance and vertigo. I am still experiencing heating up and cooling down, but am currently doing a Lyme handling that may or may not have anything to do with that.

There is LOTS more data available at this site if you search for Babesia.

Best,

Cass A

Thanks to all for the useful info!

I think I'll try the artemisin first and see if I get another reaction. That might confirm it's babs.

I was glad to hear that treatment helped lift the depression and anxiety.

Hi Marz - I also never had sweats - during illness or treatment.

Now if u want to talk about chills - them I have to the extreme! Friends laugh at me cuz I wear sweat pant's in the evening & rainey days in summer! I can hardly handle air conditioning, and I live in S Tenn where it's hot in the summer.

They get better while on any bab's treatment but they are basically a mainstay symp for me, along w/ vertigo, & twitches.

BIG improvement in emotions & energy after any bab's treatment. The BEST ENERGY boost for me was after Malerone.

Haven't tried tonic water yet, but will give it a try...not my fav flavor.

I herxed alot on Holly Pharm's Artmisinin 100 mg.
At that time I didn't have any abx to go w/ it, so I did 1 per day for 1 week, then 2 per day for 1 week. Then stopped, and did this on what I felt was an as needed basis. Know that I did this on my own & at my own risk - but I was desperate.

Also know that there are opinions out there that taking it w/out zith or equivalent is not a good thing. ( I forget if it was cuz the body becomes immune to it, or the critters do - w/o the abx, sorry) That said, I didn't over do it - and I DID herx the same as when on perscribed Bab's drugs.

I tested neg till the FISH test came out from IgeneX - is that the test u had done? Not a perfect test tho - as when I knew I had relapsed it cam e back neg - luckily LLMD treated clinically.

Hope this helps. Cindy

Cindy, I too am cold all the time except in the summer. But when the temp drops to 80, I need a blanket at night.

Guess I thought this was a lyme thing though.

I'll search for the Holly Pharm's art. online. It's good to know of brands that work for other people.

Thanks!

No sweats here, ever. Conversely, always freezing. Positive for babesia WA-1. Wicked little creatures.

It's really hard to know what's from lyme and what's from babesia.

[sigh...]

Hope things improve for you with treatment!

Marz, I'm trying to figure out the same thing (whether or not I have babs). One doc says yes, the other no. No positive test, for what that's worth.
What I did do, on one LLMDs recommendation, was to take 500 mg/Zith + 600 mg/artemesinin per day. I did that for 3 weeks. Then, I pulsed (4 days on, 3 days off) 1000 mg (yes, that's a lot!) of art + Zith. I couldn't really distinguish anything from existing Lymie symptoms. I didn't get sweats/chills/headache that I was sort of hoping to get to confirm that I had babs.
So...we're treating Lyme and bart right now. Will worry about that one later.

For anyone who tested positive for Wa-1, don't you have to get a pretty high titer (1:640 or greater, per Sonoma county lab) to get a positive test? That's what it says on my test sheet. Igenex tests titers much lower. ??

Me either.

Don't take too much artemisinin. 100mg to 300mg per day is all I took. I also took zithromax with it so the babs would not become resistant to the art.
