I started taking Biaxin a couple of weeks ago, 500 mg a day. Stopped after day 2 because I started to have so awful mental symptoms (severe anxiety waves going through the body, insomnia etc) and some other things. I guess it must have been a herx because many of those symptoms passed after some days.

Anyway I'm trying it again now because I have to try something. Any suggestions how I should do it this time to handle the herx better? A lower dose and how low? Only every other day maybe? I dont have a LLMD here so I'm pretty much on my own here.

I took 250 mg today.

Thanks a lot!!

BF

Hey there..

I started Biaxin on June 27. I remember the first three or four days as being difficult. I stuck with it and got much better after about a week. Actually, I had the best days I have had since this all started.

I slipped back on Monday.. so it was short lived.. but encouraging. You might be going through the same thing. Can you take a low dose to keep the herx to a minimum and work back up to 500 to 1000 mg per day? I think you'll see results.

Today marks day 4 of Biaxin And paquenil and I havent Herxed yet. I take 500mg twice a day. I kinda want a herx so I know it is working.

I actually just feel a bit better so I am not complaining!!

have you done any ABX prior to this? I am thinking since I had 2.5 weeks of Doxy in the begining and herxed bad, then 3.5 weeks or Rocephin and then 2.5 weeks off ABX maybe I cut the bug load down. We will see what happens.

Good Luck to you! Melissa

Merrygirl,

Your babs herx is coming.

Like you.. I felt pretty darn good after starting babs treatment. Then WHAM!

Probably the second hardest herx to get past since I started treatment.

It's working... it sounds like you are on the same track that I was on.

It depends on when the bugs cycle, but when they do, you will herx.

For me it was 27 days after starting.

I know it is a sick thing to want to happen, I guess I thought it would be soon. I have everything ready and waiting, babysitters for crisis etc.. I am sure it will happen soon enough. Then I will complain how bad I feel lol. Melissa

Maybe that is why it is hard on you since maybe you have a lot of bugs. I hope you do well.

When I have taken Biaxin in the past I had horrible side effects (anxiety, nightmares, headaches) if I took the full dose right away. I don't think it's a herx, I think it's side effects of the med. So ramp up slow - maybe half a pill for a few days then so on. I would do the same for the plaquenil. In fact, in 4 months on that combo I never reached a full dose of the plaquenil. It's a pretty good combo - good luck - but never assume it's a herx. If you're new to abx one thing to keep in mind is that ramping up on meds is a almost always a good idea.

Here's what came up when I asked about anxiety-moderating herbs on an herbal forum (I'm the first poster in that thread):
http://herbalmedicine.tribe.net/thread/78f9578f-879a-46ba-a132-13ce119261f6

Lots of suggestions, you have to kinda ignore a few of the 'why bother with antibiotics' crowd's responses, but I really think it'd be great to figure out an herbal answer to the anxiety because this seems like a really effective drug for many people judging from the Lymenet posts here about it.

Thanks for the link Maria.

Yesterday after about 8 hours I took the 250 mg of Biaxin, I felt the good old anxiety appearing again... I slept very well though. Today when I woke up I had some pretty mild anxiety again, I decided to take only 125 mg today and see what happens...

Oh no... the 2nd day on Biaxin and now I got the stiff neck thing... and the crazy thing is that at the same time the neck feels extremely weak, like I have to hold it up all the time.

I got the same thing 2 weeks ago when I tried Biaxin the 1st time. And now again. Is this a herx? I really hope so...
