Anyone experience flank pain after taking antibiotic? I think it is my kidney and it hurts really sharply when I move certain ways on my right flank. I just took my third dose of Doxy. Took the first two am & pm yesterday.

Does this seem normal to anyone?

Hi Dizzygirl,
I had passed some kidney stones and I thought it might be the same, since it comes and goes.

However, when a cat scan was done it showed the remaining stones were on the left side.

My pain is always on the right. The pain seems to appear when I am having a herx,

Of course 2.4 mu of bicillin in the tail twice a week does make my lower back sore when injected too high.

If the pain becomes worse notify your doc. It could be from a stone or a herx symptom.

Hope you feel better soon,
Ken

I have had a kidney stone before and know what that feels like when it is in the ureter. That is excruciating whether you are moving or not.

This pain is bad but only if I move a certain way. It is really dull otherwise so I know it isn't a stone passing, at least not yet.

I had similar kidney pain when I was on steroids back in November for sinus polyps and a bad infection. An hour or so after I took the meds it would start and last most of the afternoon.

If it continues to get worst, I will call my doctor.

Are you sure it is kidney? Might it be your adrenals that sit on top of your kidneys? Flank pain can be associated with adrenal fatigue. This pain sometimes responds to the herb Siberian Eleuthero.

You're not gluten-intolerant are you? There is one kind of doxy which contains gluten.

I get that kind of pain from eating gluten [among other problems!]

I don't know for sure what it is. It has subsided so I will see if it happens again with this mornings dose of doxcy. I drank tons of water yesterday to help flush my system and that seem to relieve it or it might have just been time that did it.

It feels like my kidney area. But who knows. Hard to tell exactly where the pain was coming from.

Thanks for the input.
