I know some have just posted some info about the use of heparin to inhibit babesia. My Dr. will not use it, but would consider Lovenox (a low molecular weight heparin). Does anyone know if it works the same in inhibiting babesia or helping with Lyme coagulation problems? Thanks, Nikki

Nikki, I looked for probably a half hour last night to see if there was a difference. I didn't find anything. I found one thing that specifically "included" LMWH, but I don't understand what it was even talking about, to much scientific stuff.........way, way over my head. Sorry, I just don't know.

Ok, I did find this this morning. In my thread about getting rid of Babesia, Lou posted an article on malaria which talks about using a depolymerized heparin. It looks like it worked in clearing the malaria.
Then I looked up this depolymerized heparin and I think it is Levenox which is LMWH/Low Molecular Weight Heparin!!!
This little piece has nothing to do with us, but it does say they are the same.
quote:Effects of an enzymatically depolymerized heparin as compared with conventional heparin in healthy
volunteers.Mtzsch T, Bergqvist D, Hedner U, Ostergaard P.
A low molecular weight heparin (LMW-heparin) with a mean molecular weight of 4900 dalton was prepared by controlled enzymatic depolymerization of conventional porcine mucosal heparin. The effects of 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 U (XaI; 29, 58 and 116 mg) on factor Xa inhibition (XaI), factor IIa inhibition (IIaI), APTT, AT III and platelet count were compared to those of 5,000 U (XaI; 26 mg) of conventional heparin given s.c. to 6 healthy volunteers. 5,000 U (XaI; 58 mg) of LMW-heparin was given i.v. A dose related response with regard to the XaI and the IIa-inhibitory activities with peak values at 4 hours after the s.c. injections was obtained. An increase of the XaI/IIaI ratio over the time after injection was seen only after i.v. administration of the LMW-heparin. The APTT was only slightly prolonged and remained within normal range after s.c. injection. AT III and platelet counts were unaffected. The biological half life of the LMW-heparin was 111 minutes if assayed by Xa inhibition, 76 minutes if assayed by IIa inhibition and 40 minutes if assayed by APTT. A strong correlation between the XaI activities obtained and body weight was seen, indicating that LMW-heparin should be administered individually according to body weight.

My husband was on Heparin and his LLMD swapped him to Lovenox as he also has Prostate Cancer - The LLMD said Lovenox had MORE Anti Cancer/Anti viral properties etc than Heparin and if he were my husband he would use Lovenox - I assume for its anti cancer properties - Interestingly he had to have recent tests as they where about to do a radical prosectomy as the cancer was stage 4 and the oncologist/urologist asked whatever are you on as the aggressive cancer has been switched off and PSA was suddently very low - so at the moment op is on hold (nice as hes so young)
Although the same LLMD kept me on Sub Cut Heparin and I have Babesia - so I am unsure if Lovenox is as good as Heparin for Babesia treatment - mind you Heparin treats me well

I had to be put on blood thinners because I kept developing blood clots in my lungs...even when on theraputic levels of cumadin.
I was put on Lovenox and at one time Heparin. I have to tell you that even on Lovenox, which I was on for about 2 years....were the best past 2 years of my life.
My had lyme reactivated after being in remission for 4 years before the blood clots but with the Lovenox, I felt great...just as good as I did on Heparin. But I have been off of it for over a year now and my Lyme is tearing me apart.
My point, it helped wonders when I was on it, so I think Lovenox is great. But alone, it just doesn't work as a "cure".For theraputic levels they usually just do the Lovenox 40mg. There are 100mg and 120mg, but are used in severe cases and your blood has to be tested every week on the highter dosages.
