I'm getting my impacted wisdom teeth out in less

than 3 hours. In the event that the operating

physician ignores my request to omit steroids

from the IV solution, is there ANY chance I'll

be okay?

So scared,

Adam

Let me know how it goes. My two sons get theirs out mid-September and I did not know there were steroids in the IV.

They will both have their extractions in the hospital.

Hope all is well.

ACtually, he knew enough to give me neither steroids nor ketamine. For an oral surgeon, I would definitely consider him Lyme-literate [Smile]

Adam, I know why no steroids, but why no Ketamine? I looked it up, and I did not see any contraindications for using it. Aside from "hallucinations" as a side effect, is there some other reason why lymies should request not to have it used during anesthesia?

My oldest son may be having his wisdom teeth out, and I will definitely request no steroids (although I didn't know that this was something put into the IV either). If there is a known reason why no ketamine, could you share it with us?
thanks!
Julie

I had my remaining two out a couple of months ago and was just RXd amoxicillin to get the infection down and ultram for pain...never heard of using steroids for that....

He said that since I have been experiencing

memory loss lately, he would be reluctant to

administer ketamine for fear that it might

exacerbate it.

Thanks for the ketamine question and the answer.

I, too, wondered.

You are lucky to have such a wise doctor - and one who understand about our desire for clearer thinking.
