I should of asked my dr. but I didn't think of it at the time.

I'm on doxycycline and flagyl. I'm supposed to take one capsule of each 2X a day.

Is it okay to take them both at the same time?

Do they affect eachother's absorption?

Also doxy says take on empty stomach and flagyl says take with food.

My doctor said it doesn't matter with doxy- you can take it with food. Does that sound right?

I guess he should know since he's a doctor, but I just wanted to double check.

Thanks!!!

Hi Lauren,

Yes, you can definitely take doxy with food. In fact, if your gut is anything like mine, I would highly recommend it!!

I could only take doxy with a full meal. Then I was fine. If I took doxy on an empty stomach, I became very nauseaus. Many folks will advise you to take doxy with food. Ginger helps if you become nauseaus from it.

Doxy worked very well for me, even though I only took it for about 3 weeks before switching.

Not sure about the flagyl question, because I only took flagyl for three days. It was a difficult one for me to tolerate. Be sure not to drink any alcohol while on flagyl, even the tiny amounts in mouthwash or tinctures, that can make you very ill. Take care!

Lauren...

VT gave you good information and I just want to say yes to food with doxy too!

Good to know you are double checking too. Do note- I always double check everything with my local pharmacist.

No disrespect intended to doctors.. but the drugs are better known by the pharmacists.

Never hesitate to double check. OK?
