Hi everyone.

I have been dealing with TERRIBLE Nausea the last 2 months. I have lost 25 pounds.

I am overweight so I am not too worried about weighing too little anytime soon. Infact the "Lyme Diet" is the best diet I have ever been on..hahaha.

I have a diagnosis of chronic Lyme and Toxoplasmosis. I test Neg so far for anythig else. Waiting for some other results soon.

I have lower GI issues as well. I have white blood cells in my stool (sorry TMI). My PCP is going to send me to a GI doc.

I have had to force food down for the last few weeks. Sometimes I dont eat other than breakfast, and a small snack with my PM meals.

I have always been the type of person that no matter how sick I am my appetite is good. I have been taking Phenergan (sp?) by mouth as needed it helps a bit.

Yesterday after getting my daughter on the bus I had to scurry to a storm drain to have dry heaves.

I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts about WHY I am so Nauseated and have NO appetite? It is all the time!
Thanks as usual for any input.

Melissa [puke]

I've had chronic nausea for almost 2 years now and I have to make myself eat. Lost over 30lbs, now I am about 20lbs underweight... Treating for bartonella seems to help some but I am not for sure?

My constant nausea was a result of food sensitivities. When I cut out the foods I tested sensitive to, my nausea really reduced.

I used the ELISA/ACT test, but last I heard they were temporarily not testing. You could try an elimination diet.

The biggest culprit for me was lemon. Although, I generally need to eat lots of carbs in order not be nauseous.

I have had terrible nausea-for over a year. Treating bart/babs has helped. Unfortunately not much has helped. I weighed 116, now I weigh 102 on a good day.

In addition to above:

Liver/gall bladder, sluggish lymph system, and drug toxicity were sources for
my nausea.

Naturopathic support, body work (acup & chiro), and homeopathic drainage remedies for liver issues were the solution for me. Milk thistle is not the only thing that helps the liver.

I'm going to try one of those coffee thingies once I can control my laughter!

Yes, you definately wouldn't want to try it laughing, that would be a very big mess. [Big Grin] But when I finally gave in, I really turned the corner ... now my family doesn't tease me, they make my coffee if I'm having a bad day.

My stomach problems are due to bacterial dysbiosis.

Poor dear!

That's the worst. I really feel for you.

Can you go to urgent care or even the ER to receive fluids and meds through IV?

It can be truly dangerous to go on like that, not to mention horribly demoralizing.

Personally, I think nausea/vomiting is like a vicious cycle that needs serious intervention.

Once you get dehydrated enough, it can be really hard to stop.

Some people swear by ginger-- for me it only helps a tiny bit. Sometimes a salty snack can be good, like potato chips or saltines, or even water with a pinch of salt.

For me, the best way of dealing is to lie in a quiet, cool dark room ALONE. (Which may be difficult for you, a busy mom!)

I had no success with oral meds like Zofran. They seem to paralyze your stomach muscles such that nothing comes out but you still dry heave. It's almost worse.

I have gone to urgent care before because I was so desperate.

They can give you anti-vomiting drugs there through IV, suppositories, or even a shot. I have had all 3 done before, which were all immensely helpful.

I think it also can do a lot for your body to take fluids through an IV.

Can your primary do some bloodwork right now? When I was at my worst, they were able to tell that I had high levels of the enzyme Lipase, which commonly causes vomiting. I also wonder whether your liver could be involved.

Are you by any chance on Mino? It completely destroyed my stomach in less than a week. I was so much better after getting of it. I am now on Bicillin shots and so far I've had absolutely no vomiting or nausea.

I think it's a good idea to see a GI specialist, just to be safe; however, the one I saw was not terribly helpful. In the meantime, I really hope you get more immediate attention.

What happened back when the nausea started? New med? Stress? Something else? Knowing that might help you determine the cause, and therefore relief.

I've dealt with nausea too. What helps me is to take meds with food. Even washing down the pills with milk instead of water helps.

This was all part of mid-Lyme for me. Dry heaves were awful. Some days all I could eat was a mint. Lost 40 lbs without trying (the only good part). Finally, Reglan was helpful.

I am not sure my Nausea is triggered by anything specific. It is like having severe morning sickness. If I eat I feel nauseous.

I did spread out my meds a bit more. I was taking Biaxin/Plaq in the am with all of my once a day meds (4) and it was too much.

I started taking my once a day meds a few hours later.

I do think that is helping. My nausea hasnt been so bad the last 2 days. If it gets worse again (It seems to come in cycles) I am going to ask for suppositories.

I had labwork drawn last week so I should have results soon.

Thanks for everyones help. Melissa

I would blame BABESIOSIS, until it's proven otherwise that you don't have it!

What abx are you on??

The following signs/symptoms may be present in those infected with Babesiosis:
Fatigue
Arthralgias
Myalgia
Drenching sweats
Headaches
Emotional lability
Depression
Dark urine
Splenomegaly
Dizziness
Nausea and vomiting
Cough
Dyspnea
Fever
Chills
Hepatosplenomegaly
Jaundice
Malaise
Shortness of breath
Bleeding tendencies, bruising
Thrombocytopenia
Hemoglobinuria
Hyperesthesia
Pulmonary edema
Encephalopathy
Low to normal range leukocyte counts
Possible elevated levels of dehydrogenase, bilirubin,
transaminase*
Anorexia
Approximately 25%- 66% of Babesia patients are known to be co-infected with Lyme disease. These symptoms may continue for long periods of time, decrease, then return. A low Babesiosis titer (IgG) often indicates a chronic infection.
An acute or current infection may show a higher reading on the IgM test initially. There are over 100 species of Babesia in the United States but only ONE or TWO species are currently checked by commercial labs.

Thanks Lymetoo.

I think I have Babs too. I was tested again last week by blood smears and PCR.

Waiting for the results. I am on Biaxin and Plaquenil right now.

My daughter also had terrible nausea. It finally started to subside when she started Mepron for Babesiosis. Although she tested negative for this, it was the turning point in her treatment.

A colonoscopy and endoscopy proved nothing.

So I agree with Lymetoo on this, look into Babs.
