I've been taking it for YEARS and love it. But after so many years you will probably have to up the dosage to get the same effect.

I'd check with your LLMD though, I never experienced any of what you described.

Good Luck.

Hi Rani

I have been taking it for years for sleep & it does help me fall alseep. I think the generic is called clonazepam.

Although, it is VERY addicitng over long term usage & hard to wheen off of.

I have to take it early in the evening , ( I can't take it after 12:00). If I take it too late it can lag over just a bit.

I would call your doc & tell him your reactions to 1/2 tab. There a alot of common sleep meds that actually have a negative effect on me but others say they like. So I guess it may depend on your personal CNS?

Hope you can find something that helps [group hug]
Dana

Be careful, it has a longer half-life than Ativan. Turned me into a Zombie.

So far clonazepam has been the only drug to control my myoclonus (muscle jerks), but I have to keep increasing the dose for it to keep working. I don't know how much of my fatigue is lyme and how much is from this drug.

I do think it makes me a little off balance as well. Hiker

As you know, many if not most people dx'd with Fibromyalgia actually have Lyme. I ran a Fibro support group for 10 years, and IMO, Klonopin aka clonazepam was by far the best all around drug for helping the condition. I wish I could take it.

However, it is addictive, and only 1/2 of the lowest dose pill made me stop breathing. I had already had the same problem with an over the counter drug called Q-Vel for restless legs, and my doctor told me to avoid all quinine drugs and related drugs forever, because both are quinine related. BTW, calcium fixed my legs.

The Rheumy said that even though Klonopin is a benzodiazepiene, it is also a relative of quinine, unlike the other benzos. Benzos really help with over stimulation problems, but except for Klonopin and Xanax, they all destroy stage 4 sleep, so I would not take any of the others, at least not at bed time. I now take a low dose of Xanax.

It sounds like you may be having what doctors call a paradoxical reaction..... In some people, a drug can act exactly the opposite of how it usually acts. I would talk to your doctor about it. You might also want to look at a drug interaction checker online, or call your pharmacist and ask, to see if it could be an interaction with some other drug you are taking.

Good luck,

Klutzo

I took it for a week to try and get rid of tinnitus. Talk about DRUG HANGOVER!! Holy cow! Threw that stuff out the window.

Perhaps Flexeril (muscle relaxant) would be more effective. I've been on it for over 3 yrs - made all the difference in my quality of life.

I took clonazapam at bedtime for over 8 years for muscle jerking and constant night time wakening. It does give you a little "hangover" in the morning, but in 8 years I never changed the dosage (needing to increase), and I weened off the drug in 2 days. I know some people have a bad time getting off of it, but it wasn't a problem for me, and it was the only thing that helped me get any rest at all.

you describe it perfectly. yes, i had an "over-reactive" type of response. i felt like my muscles were jerking all night, couldn't sleep, my mind raced.

i hated it. and no i'm not on anything else so it could not have been interferring with another drug.
