I'm on Zith, Bicillin, Malarone (one a day) and Artemisia, now 4-5 months in with this protocol, and am now heading into my 4th week of what i presume (and hope!!!!) is the herx from hell!!!! (Either that,or the Babs and Lyme have gone crazy and am back at square one!....)
I have cut back a bit on the Zith and Bicillin doses past two weeks, and seems to take the edge off for a while, but it's still continuing, so was wondering is it ok to hold the Malarone for a few days to see if that helps bring this hell to an end?
i know I read somewhere before that it is important not to take breaks in Malarone treatment in case of building resistance, but is a short 2-3 day break ok??
Would really appreciate opinions on this
Thanks in advance Elaine

Depends upon your dr!! But for me....YES! A day or two off may save you a trip to the hospital!

Hi elaine, We are not doctors and of course you should ask your doctor this.
But I will tell you that I was in a similar situation this spring, while taking one malarone/day plus an increasing amount of amoxy along with some zith. My herxes got very bad about a month into starting malarone, and my llmd said it was fine to stop taking the malarone for a couple of days, and to ease off the amoxy. He did not think a 2-3 day break from malarone would be harmful.
Of course this was medical advice for me from my doctor, I don't know that we can generalize it.
As it turned out, I eased off the amoxy and zith and that helped, but kept taking the malarone even though it was difficult. Because I was just beginning to feel that the malarone was effective, I was able to breathe easier, so I pushed through that difficult time and stayed on the malarone uninterrupted for over 5 months.

Since you have been on the treatment for about 5 months and are now having a month long herx, I'd call your doctor and talk to him about it.
That's a long time to be feeling bad after so many months of not feeling as bad ... if that makes sense. Maybe something else is becoming more active now that you're further into the babs treatment.
