How long did it take to start "turning the corner", and then to finally get off the antibiotics?

I've been on abx for a bit of time now and feel like no progress is made in my symptoms. Still having chest tightness, leg pain, and general tiredness. I got sick around June and I started the abx in August.

stick with it. it took me three courses of two month long oral doxy protocols. i started with just one month at atime and felt better but the symptoms returened. the two months in a row helped. pay attention t after to your diet. take supplements. try to remain positive. you will feel better. b.t.w. I didn't start on abx until about 6 months I suspected I had lyme.

It really varies from person to person.

I have been on abx for 8 months. I'm feeling better, but still have a long way to go. I had it for over 30 years before diagnosis and have coinfections along with it.

Hang in there!

It took me a yr to feel ANY better and then another year before I felt like I was going to get well. Then took abx for another 2 years.

Been off for 3 yrs now.

I'd had Lyme since childhood, not since "June". I also had babesia. That complicates the issue.

You should be well in awhile if you were recently bitten. Let's hope, anyway!

Follow a good sugar-free diet, for one thing!!

Follow a good sugar-free diet, for one thing!!

This can't be emphasied enough.

1-A Yale study of AIDS found that 70% of the immune system lies in the gut. It is believed by many that a damaged gut is behind most illnesses.

I'm not certain which comes first; the illness or the damaged gut but you either have a damaged gut or you are in danger of getting it. A damaged gut does not necessarily give you a stomach ache, but it can give you any of the symptoms attributed to lyme disease.

2-Antibiotics kill the friendly bacteria in the gut after which the bad bacteria multiplies and takes over. The bad bacteria cause damage to the gut. Yeast infections are just one of the damaging side effects.

3-Take probiotics which add the friendly bacteria back into the gut. My doctor has me taking 3 acidophilus pearls a day.

4-Eat a very healthy diet consisting mostly of fruits and veggies and lean means. Stay away from sugar, processed foods, fried foods and foods that easily convert to sugar such as white potatos, bananas. Low sugar fruits include all berries.

Obviously the healthier your gut and your body, the quicker you will respond to treatment and get well.

Hi blossom,

It depends on alot of factures~ Your immune system, how many co-infections you have, how high your germ load is & how long you have been sick without treatment ect...

Took me 3/4 years straight treatment for lyme & co-infections. Herxed pretty much the whole time untill I was able to pulse at the end.

Been off abx for 1 & 1/2 years. But I had been sick & untreated for many years.

Only doing rife & supps. I am much better & for the time being stable.

Good sugestion on diet luvs

Hope this helps [Smile]

For quite a bit over a year it was looking very bleak. I had several courses of doxy with cefuroxime axefil and then clarithromycin with amoxicillin, but progress was very slow. I also was taking citricidal and olive leaf extract.

The turning point finally came after I started artimesia anua, garlic, and atovaquone ('malerone').

Thus, it may have been the coinfection babesiosis that was blocking my recovery. I don't have a spleen, though; that was probably a big factor in my experience.

I've been in treatment since November 2006. I didn't start to notice any moderate improvment until I added Malarone (Babs treatment).

Malarone caused me to herx for almost 3 straight months. It was very difficult to deal with, but the end results are worth it.

Today I'm finishing up Malarone and starting Flagyl. Flagyl is supposed to attack the cystic form of Lyme and be the big sweeper. Doc is certain Flagyl will be difficult but will pay off.

So.. Honestly.. it's hard not to question your treatment when you have been going for so long with little improvement. But the over-all response from those of us who have lived it.. is that you shouldn't get discouraged this early. I'm almost at an entire YEAR of treatment before I feel noticeable improvements.

Hang in there!!

26 months of treatment. And counting.......

It seems like most of the folks who have responded have had Lyme for much longer than you or I. I've probably had it since last fall and I was diagnosed in early June. I also have babesia.

I started abx right away as soon as I found out, and I've been on them ever since (with the exception of a week or two). I feel that I'm starting to turn the corner now after 4 months on abx. I feel a little better each week. It's a very slow process, so be patient.

I started out on doxy, then to mepron/zith, then to Biaxin. I have a month left on Biaxin and I'm hoping that's enough.

It might not be enough, and that's okay. As long as I'm seeing improvement, that's enough for me. My ultimate goal is to be able to start playing recreational volleyball this winter.

Hi!
6 months antibiotics did it for me. I really didn't feel much better until well into 4th month. I did lots of detoxing I think that helped. Sweat at least once a day. If you can't exercise - sauna! Also yoga, or if you can't get in the positions, just stretch your body as much as you can.

Oh and I was constantly being told to be patient... well, in the long run, I think my impatience to get better made me get better faster. Positive attitude really helps!

That' great to hear guys!

JSnyde2: I've also thought about going to the gym once I have more energy. How long were you sick before your abx treatment started? Did you have coinfections? What kind of abx did your doctor put you on?

Its good you caught it early.
I know many from years back talking to them on the Massachucetts General Lyme forum.
Most are on the lyme disease memorial page.
Find a good LLMD,and do as he says.Take good supplements.
