My partner's father lives near Hartford and has Lyme Disease. He caught it early due to the bull's eye, and was treated for 2 weeks with doxycycline (200 mg/day). Because he has no symptoms he is convinced he is better.
Is it possible to get bit in CT and not have any coinfections? I am particularly worried because he is 79, I'm afraid what will happen is that his mind will start to go and he will be diagnosed with Alzheimer's, not a TBD.
Also, I could not convince him to go to an LLMD, despite the fact that he knows my whole ordeal. The duck he is going to told him that he has successfully treated all 400 of his Lyme patients. I find that hard to believe. Would a reputable doctor really lie about this?
Also, the doctor claimed that Lyme Disease has been around for hundreds of years, and that nothing has changed about it. I believe that is wrong too.
Would love to hear what people think about this.

He may or may not be lying. He may THINK everyone was successfully treated!
When they come back to him 2 yrs later, he thinks they have MS, or Parkinson's, or fibromyalgia, or CFS...the list goes on and on.

Ha, He probably went to Dr. F who/why we just picketed out side of UCONN med center today. He's the ID duck who helped write the letter to the NEJM.
The University of New Haven tick studies showed more ticks the caught showed more babs than lyme.
I'm pretty sure he went to his PCP, hopefully not an ID specialist, which of course I already advised him not to do!

There ARE some people who only get Lyme from a tick-bite... I contracted Lyme in CT, and my LLMD believes that I don't have any co-infections.
I also have 4 friends who were treated for Lyme with only one month or less of antibiotics, and none of the 4 have relapsed--so far!!! I'm not recommending this, just noting it.
Hopefully the father is one of the lucky ones who only has Lyme and who is kept well by early treatment! At least he can call you for an LLMD if he starts feeling symptoms.

Thanks, Hillary. That makes me feel better. And I bet he'll call me if he has any symptoms. The problem is, he's not reading anything I give him, so he may not even know what some symptoms are. He might just be expecting joint pain or fever. Luckily my partner sees him every other week, so he can monitor how he's doing. Like if his memory goes downhill quickly, etc.
