Once again I am being forced to take a break from the abx. At least for a month. My LLMD doesn't want to start the "summer meds" until they figure out why my blood tests are so screwy. And my rash was determined to be "allergic reaction/possibly to medication". Tell me something I didn't know!

I am so bummed. Every time I have to go off meds, the symptoms come back full force. The last time I was off, I had to resort to using a cane. I've been off for a week already and am having problems.

I threw my shoulder out twice yesterday and have no clue why. When I got out of the shower, I couldn't move it and my dh had to pull up my pants! That's a first. He joked about usually wanting to get me out of my pants, not into them!

Of course, he's cured - or so he thinks. The doc is not so sure. He's giving him his vacation from meds for the rest of the summer - or until something happens. Let's hope he's right and not the Dr. He has been off meds for 6 weeks and no symptoms have returned. We have both been in treatment since July 2005.

But the good news is that I don't have to avoid the sun [Big Grin] When I asked the doc if that meant I could eat sugar for a month, he just chuckled and said I knew better than that. Uh huh, just wishful thinking.

Sorry you have to go off meds!

Have you considered taking an herb like Samento during the break?

It sucks to get your sypmtoms back.

Could you be more specific about your test results? Liver enzymes, or what??

Being off all summer is a long time!!!

My liver enzymes were elevated, but they usually are and that wasn't the reason for stopping. It was the low WBC that doesn't seem to be going back up even though I stopped two other "suspicious" meds. I also had high monocytes, eosinphils and basophils.

They did a spleen ultrasound that was normal, RA was negative, ANA was <140. Total protein was also high.

The EBV results have not come back yet, so we're waiting for those. The hemotologist wants to do a bone marrow draw if nothing else turns up. LLMD doesn't want to put my on anything until they clear up the mystery because a new med would probably just scew the results. He also agrees that the bone marrow draw is the next step.

It was probably just the tetra - I will retest next week, which will be 2 weeks off tetra.

hurtingramma - sounds like we're in the same exact boat mostly.

I am also taking an abx break per the instructions from hematologist I saw last week. My WBC count is also low (but has been since I was in high school, and I'm 24 now). He thinks the abx are making the numbers lower than they need to be, so we're seeing if they go up after being off abx for 3-4 weeks. My LLMD had to agree (though I am changing LLMDs).

The hematologist doesn't think a bone marrow test is needed in my case though since my blood levels are fine except for my white blood cell count and my neutrophils being low.

So, just wanted to say we're in the same boat and I understand how you feel. I'm not very happy about going off abx either. I'm pretty worried about it as well. [group hug] [group hug]
