Just wanted to check with y'all on this:

I've got my IGeneX testing kit here. I know I need to stop my abx before I do the testing. I'm wanting to time all of this properly.

Do you stop your abx 28 days before the testing, and have your blood drawn 10-12 days after that? That's what my doctor says, but I wanted to check with y'all to see if you had any advice.

I stopped the doxy yesterday, which would be day 28. I'm scheduled to have blood drawn on Tues. Nov. 6, which would be on day 12 of no abx.

Does that sound right?

Thanks for your feedback!

Terri

Also, am I gonna feel like crap after stopping the abx? That's kind of a strange question, because I feel both better AND worse on the abx!

It's sort of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" type of situation, isn't it?

No, you are supposed to take antibiotics for 28-30 days then stop.

Wait ten days and then have blood drawn.

Hugs,

Geneal

Geneal....I think that's what she did. I was a bit confused myself!

You may feel bad when going off....but may not. It usually takes a week or two for the symptoms to come roaring back.

I hope you get lucky in that regard!

PS...You did it right, if I'm understanding you correctly.

It is not so easy to answer teh question as your exact situation is an inportant factor.

Why?...

One has to remember that the test looks for antibodies to the FRAGMENTS of the bacteria.

In LATE stage cases, the fragments are generated BY the antibiotics since the bacteria has had time to tune its "skin" to avoid being detected by the immune system and thus you don't have many antibodies. Thus in late stage taking antobiotics during the testing is likely good.

HOWEVER...

IN EARLY stage the Antibiotics will SUPPRESS the production of antibodies so taking antibiotics early and during the testing will increase the likelyhood of a negative result.

David, I'm sure glad you explained that. I was just thinking I blew my test.

First, I took the test without antibiotics, and it came back completely negative. I took the antibiotics for 3 weeks and then within a day or two, did the test. That also was a blank page.

My CD57 count is 50, so I'm being treated. I'm definitely late stage, from 1978 or even earlier.

I had been on antibiotics for 3 weeks for a really bad sinus infection. I had been off them for about 10 to 14 days before I did the IGeneX. I've always wondered if I still would have had a positive IGG and IGM after all these years if it hadn't been for the antibiotics.

I'm just glad that it came back positive or I would have never been treated. Because even I believed that there wasn't Lyme in my state. I know better now!

Thanks so much for your feedback. I just re-read my post and saw that I worded it wrong...........no wonder you were confused!

I took the abx for 28 days, then stopped them. I'm supposed to have my blood drawn on Day 12 of no abx. I've already got it scheduled for Tues. Nov. 6.

I'm already feeling the effects of no abx. I don't like it, but I can suffer through it. It's worth getting the testing done through IGeneX.

My 2 other Western Blots were done through LabCorp. The 1st one showed 4 bands positive, and the 2nd one showed 3 bands positive. They were done Aug. 16 and Sept. 27.

I'm still confused on HOW it "helps" to possibly bring out more bands.......anyone know?

Does it really take 3 weeks to get the results back? Yuck!

Take care,
Terri

If you are seeing an effect after ony stoppng for 12 days then you are dealing with a faster growing infection than Lyme. Maybe you still have lyme but if that was all, it should not come back that fast.
Typically if it was lyme only you are looking at several weeks at least before things start to get noticably worse.

This is something else to consider in the overall picture....

Yes, it usually takes 3 weeks, sad to say!

Have you read this??

I think it answers your question.
