I've read different people talk of ringing or buzzing in ears. I was wondering if anyone ever experienced their ears feeling water-logged. It's been that way for 3 weeks. It is driving me mad. When I lay down it sounds like a motor running.

Hey BP...

Sorry you are having this problem. Kinda weird that I am having it too right now.. exactly as you describe... and for about the last three weeks. It is very annoying.. for sure.

I feel like heating my heat till it turns soft and runny... like hot lava... and draining whatever is pluggin up my ears out by shaking my head around. Or using a high powered vacum to clear me up!

There can be various reasons for this problem to occur. Zithromax.... and sometimes other drugs being used can cause it to happen.

Lyme can also be the reason.

Cranial nerve problems can do it. It may be that your nerves to that area are slightly pinched off... or the tissue around them is swollen and affecting the functioning of the nerves feeding the ears.

Ear wax buildup is also a possibility. Have your tried having your ears candled?

It is that time of year when rag weed/flowers sometimes causes sinus problems to be exagerated... which can gum up ears and canals.

Also high blood pressure may cause this sensation too.

If it is still bothering you... perhaps a visit to your GP might be a good thing? I am not a doctor and I am sure there are other reasons for this sensation... so do not depend on my limited list above for answers to your specific problem.

I went to the chiropractor with multiple problems today... both shoulders were dislocated.. and three ribs too. Plus I've been having wicked headaches every day. With all that going on.. I forgot to mention the ear thing.. which wasn't "fixed" today and REALLY is noticable now that a lot of the other pain is lessened.

I hope your ears feel better soon.

Good luck!

PS... Have you been bobbing for apples lately? If you are as bad at it as I am at it... and end up with your head underwater more often than not... maybe your ears just need a good drying out?

Oh.. since it is near Halloween time... have you been wearing a pumpkin on your head lately? I understand that can also cause problem with ears.. especially when the seeds slide in the ear canals.

Thanks Tincup,
I also have had bell's palsy for the last 16 weeks, so that would be cranial nerve problem but this just began 3 weeks ago. I guess it is maybe a different nerve Maybe?? I don't trust being around large tubs of water as depressed as I've been [Frown] Not on any meds as I've not been to a doc worth beans yet. Disregard that, beans are more useful.

I have this problem on the left side of my face/ear where my symptoms began. I think it is related to lyme for me. It feels like there is fluid in that side of my face and in that ear.

I think it is eustachian tube dysfuction where there IS actual fluid there. You might want to google that. If you put your head upside down and it goes away, it could be that.

For me it's a subclinical case so docs can't see it in testing. It is weird for sure and has not gone away yet on abx but I have only been treating for 2 mths.

Welcome back, TC! Now don't scare off blackpowder, OK? He might think you're nuts, or that you're serious.

Not sure which one is worse! [Big Grin]

[edit to add:
After I wrote reply below, I wondered about your recent history. I see in your profile that you are a hairstylist. If you are working now do you have proper fresh air ventilation and exhaust - and as little exposure to chemicals and sprays as possible ? Any new products or fresh paint, etc. where you work? ]

- edit to add again - (I have got to start reading before I write)
Sorry, I missed that you have Bells Palsy. that certainly involves the nerves. I hope you are getting good treatment for that.
Frequently, it is seen in lyme.

This is a wonderful site with lots of good self-care advice and good hints about when to seek professional care.

===============================

You might try going low on salt to see if that helps.

I would cleary say check out the ear wax. A GP can see it, but may not be able to remove it. Ask before you schedule the appt.
And ask what method they would use and if they could do it right then.

But, as TinCup said, if there is high blood pressure, that should be checked by your GP - and the cranial nerve stuff could be evaluated by a chiropractor or a D.O. I would ask, though, if they would do a GENTLE manipulation. For me, the fast stuff sets me back. The gentle treatments for cranial-sacral therapy really help. Most insurances cover one or the other. If you have a college for chiro or DO around, they may have a low-cost clinic.

If you use a home-care ear cleaner, do not jump around shaking water out of your ear if it does not easily drain out. Lie down on your side or gently let your head ( word choice ?) go lower off of the end of the bed - or whatever else that will gently take out the water. Jumping around can injure an entire vestibular system that may be swollen to begin with.

If you have any vertigo or other vestibular symptoms, an ENT might save you time, and you'll jump right to the head of the line for their expertise. (Check your insurance though if you need a referral.)

Note: if you are just going for this, you many not need an ENT who knows lyme. I think many ENTs do know about it, though I had one who just said there was no lyme in my state. He did the wax thing and I left I did not incorporate him in any other way.

Ear candling ("alternative") did help relieve alot of that "mushiness" - but still had to go to ENT for removal of the last piece of wax left behind. Note: the sound of the tiny vacuum set me back months. It's very loud, so just be aware of that. (Also - some insurance may not cover ear was removal.)

For many with ear stuff, it helps to avoid dairy, corn and gluten (in wheat, barley, spelt and rye). For some, soy, too. Low salt diet helps some (but some folks need salt to keep blood pressure from suddenly dropping).

And going scent-free usually helps as does using natural cleaners in your home. You may alread do all that, though.

Have you brought in any new product or new food or med lately?
(Some medicines, even asprin, can be ototoxic.)
Exposed to any new aresol stuff, lawn chemical or scents? Around anyone who smokes or has that on their clothes?

A decongestant or antihistamine might help, but if you've not used one lately, slow low dose. One really wires me; the other type can cause drowsiness.

I forget which does what as I use ginger tea or garlic capsules to help. Stinging nettle is well-researched herb that may help if you have allergy trouble. Quercetin is a nutritonal supplement that also helps relieve allergies.

You can look these up on PubMed if you like:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez

I know how much the ears affect the total quality of life.
Good luck.

I started feeling that pressure in my ears and the feeling of water in them 7 months ago. I
went to my GP and he said nothing in my ears. Sent me to a ENT and he said nothing in my ears but ordered a brain MRI and test showed white spots and something definetly affecting my inner ear. I finally suspected lyme and found a NP
who see Lyme patients and put me on Mino 300 mg
and chols. My ear symptoms are almost completely gone except for an occasionally ringing. I'm so relieved. That water in your ear feeling can drive you buggy.

Scissorhappy -

I am so glad to hear that got better.

I really do think alot of the underlying cause of inner ear trouble with those with lyme, IS the lyme. I hear that treatment has helped so many.

What is ``chols''? Cholestryramine ? If so, that would be to help take out the endotoxins from lyme and the die-off, I assume.

If so, I've been looking for one w/o any sugar or aspartame (or nutrasweet). Do you have a good brand?

I also sent you a PM with another question. thanks.
