No, Zithromax seemed to make me short of breath (starved for oxygen). I would wake up in the middle of the night thinking that I was suffocating. It would come and go during the day. Seemed like sitting in my car would make it worse. I use menthol cough drops both during the day and when I wake up in the middle of the night. Sugar free Ricola. They have gotten expensive though. Halls would work too.

I had bad shortness of breath about 3-4 weeks into starting to take malarone and plaquenil. Both ultimately resolved and now I am breathing better than before taking either. I associated that awful symptom with hitting babs and lyme. My understanding is that rifampin hits both bart and lyme.

I started Rifampin (600 mg) and Doxy (400 mg) last week. Yesterday, I cut back to 300 mg of Rifampin--I've been experiencing shortness of breath and some chest discomfort. I also feel that many of my other symptoms seem to have been aggravated.

I have been looking into this and it seems that shortness of breath mabe be a side effect of the medication
Rifampin side-effects
Miscellaneous: Edema of the face and extremities have been reported. Other reactions which have occurred with intermittent dosage regimens include "flu" syndrome (such as episodes of fever, chills, headache, dizziness, and bone pain), shortness of breath, wheezing, decrease in blood pressure and shock. The "flu" syndrome may also appear if rifampin is taken irregularly by the patient or if daily administration is resumed after a drug free interval.

I'm on Rifampin, have been for around four or so weeks.
I had shortness of breath as one of my main symptoms. What I have noticed, though, is that it's gotten IMMENSELY better (I used to have it all day, usually every day). Now, when I do have shortness of breath it comes in spurts -- a couple times a week or so and lasts for 10 or so minutes.
So even though I know it's gotten better, it's changed somewhat. I don't think it's the Rifampin either. It's the Bart I have.
