I just read through another poster's thread on Mepron. I am wondering if my LLMD has me on too low of a dose of it at one teaspoon twice a day. Along with it I am on 500mg Biaxin twice a day.

I am only on day 3 and so far I have a lot more burning pain in my back and neck. However I am not having a bad herx at the moment (I am expecting something soon).

Thanks for your input. Julie

Hey JL...

Most of all I hope your herx is mild and well tolerated.

That said...

You might want to get ready to hold onto your socks!

The dose you are on is the "typical" dose. Once you go through a herx or two or five and can handle it, your doc MIGHT... not usually but MIGHT... want to up the dose.

If you have had babesia a long while and don't have a good natural detox thing going on internally....

You might wish you hadn't done the "typical dose" because that will seem to be too much because the herxes can be rough.

So to answer your question, no I don't think the dose is too low. Not at all.

And not to laugh... but my first thought when I read your post was...

Come back and ask that question in about 3 days from now when that herx should be hitting you.

[lol]

But I DO hope it will be smooth sailing for you.

Good luck!

BTW- Did I read somewhere you taught high school? If so, a herx would be mild in comparison.

[lol]

Your dose is a typical starting dose. Usually at your follow up visit with your LLMD the doses of both meds are increased. Make sure you are on Artemesia with it and that you take the Mepron with a fatty food so it gets absorbed. Good luck!

Thanks Tincup, you made me laugh. Yes, I suppose I should be able to handle it since I do teach high school, right? I have a feeling I will be calling for a substitute soon...I have not been on abx for a while, so that I wouldn't miss work since I am up for tenure in a month.

But I am sick, let's face it, and the neuro symptoms are brutal. Alas, I am back on the Mepron.

The funny thing is, I was on Mepron last Dec. for 3 weeks, and although I did feel like I was going to literally die, I had been SOOOOO sick that it wasn't much different than what I had felt like for a while.

I started to wonder if the babs was not killed because of my symptoms. And, I was right, even according to Quest.

Wildcondor, thanks for the advice on the Artemesia - that is something I do not have. I have read about it here and there, but don't have it yet. Also, I am on Biaxin, which makes me herx like crazy.

Well, I am sure you'll be hearing from me in a few days. Today, actually, I was in a complete fog all day - so tired that my husband did everything and I sat on the couch. I assume it is herx-related.

Thanks again. Julie
