I have a friend who is deathly ill and down to 90 lbs. with every symptom on the Lyme list for the past 14 months of non-treatment. Besides weight loss, she hasn't had any consistent sleep since July.
Like so many sero-neg folks, she's been to about 18 ID Ducks & Co. -- they've told her what they think she doesn't have within the realms of their specialties and they offer valium and sleeping pills.
She finally went to a LLMD who did testing. The testing showed nothing other than elevated ANA (immune system marker?) and a positive on the 58-kDa marker.
I looked it up on the Newbie info Western Blot link and it said "*58-kDa (not GroEL)" -- what does that mean?
She feels so uncertain about Lyme since the tests aren't "proving" anything definitive.
Anybody able to give some helpful info about 58-kDa?
Thanks in advance --

(not GroEL) versus (GroEL) GroEL belongs to the chaperonin family of molecular chaperones, and is found in the bacteria E coli. It is required for the proper folding of many proteins in the bacteria. So its not that protien chaperone its specific to that particular bacteria not GroEL.
