Hi All,

I don't post often, tend to lurk, but have an issue I hope you can all help me with.

I have been treating lyme and co-infections for 4 1/2 years. I am currently taking bicillin 1.2 three times per week and diflucan 100 mg. Bicillin completely floors me. My pain level is intolerable my weepiness is constant and energy is nil.

This is my second round of bicillin, I never made it to three shots weekly the first round. This time I have been on the three weekly shots for about 7 weeks.

Should I just accept that I can only do two shots per week, or push for more pain medication and stick it out. Any thoughts??

Personally, since I have to work, I would not and could not accept any treatment that left me with no energy, intolerable pain, and constant weepiness.

There are several threads on lymenet currently that debate whether to treat aggressively, or "slow and steady." It seems to depend on many factors, including ones doctor, severity of illness (TBDs are so variable even in the very sick), finances and support, attitude, etc.

Maybe you can cut back on the bicillin and add something else that you can tolerate better?

I use 2 bicillin shots/weekly, with daily low-dose minocycline and plaquenil. Although I have some rough days and hours, I have alot of energy with this treatment, tolerable muscle pain, and much of the time, feel optimistic since the overall trend is positive. Although if I could take a few months off of work, I would treat more aggressively than even this.

My LLMD is aggressive .... but when he was going to use bicillin for me, it was going to be twice per week. I ended up using something else, but I wanted to let you know that three times weekly is a lot. I'd try twice weekly and once you've adjusted to it, add the third shot.

Talk to your LLMD, of course.

I had to ramp up when I was on Amoxicillin ... and each time I increased the dosage I herxed.

I started on IM Bicillin 1.2 2x weekly for several months and now I'm dong 3x weekly.

I don't have the pain that you speak of but I'm not very well either. The only real thing the Bicillin did was reduce the inflamation, swelling and pain in my fingers and knuckles.

Hopefully your pain will go away.

I agree that 3x/week seems like a lot. I had to work my way up to 2x/week and that is where I'm staying put! [Wink]
