I had abnormally low body temps the entire time I have been sick and misdiagnosed. I am on the meds for 18 days but it is still low..95.6? Did anyone else experience this?
Thanks

I most definitely had this... My body temp has been between 95-96 degrees for 8 months now.. Never once has it been over 97 even in the summer when it was 85 degrees outside.. I also had alot of anxiety for no reason at all... and uncontrolable shakes... I have been on IV antibiotics and oral antibiotics the whole time with no changes in my body temp.

I was told my low body temp was from my thyroid malfunctioning.

That made sense to me at the time but WHY was it malfunctioning, and why such maniacal dips and swells?

I have gotten no answers.

Maybe you have the same thyroid attacking bug I have. Seems to like my glands as well as my nerves

as I have been a nervous wreck off and on for quite some time.

I had this before getting diagnosed. I couldn't get warm no matter what. I would take hot showers, I would sit in the bath tub, as soon as I got out I would be freezing.

My body temp was between 95-97. I took my body temp at least 4 times a day. I told my doc, he told me it was fairly normal with people with lyme.

After I took antibiotics for a month or so it was one of the first symptoms that went away.

I hope you find some relief quickly. I wore sweats to sleep, and used a electric blanket.

I have a low body temperature as well. I have not gotten rid of it, even in those times when it seemed I had gone into a remission.

I also have had the thyroid disorder blamed, but my thyroid levels have now been maintained for two years and I still have a body temperature of 94-96.

I also have a very low blood pressure (80/50) and pulse (in the 40's...once 36)(even lower when actively sick). At my last LLMD appointment I was told that I should increase my salt intake. I have been VERY compliant with this and it seems to be working. I had a normal BP at my last Dr apointment.

My body temp is low as well. I have hypothyroidism, but even since being medicated for it, my body temp is still low. Not as low as it used to be, but still considered in the low range.

My LLMD warned us to keep an eye on our body temp. He said lyme likes to attack the thyroid and turn the thermostat down so to speak. Lyme can thrive better at lower body temps.

What ya'll think?

I also had 96.7 for 3 1/2 years until I began seeing Dr. S. in CA who put me on Bicillin shots.

I'm actually now running a little hot.

Becky: Have you noticed any ill effects from the electric blanket. EMF makes me have more pain.

There are other ways to keep warm: hot rocks; hot water bottle; lots and lots of blankets.

Blessings,

Low body temps for me too. Anywhere between 95.2-97.6. Usually in the 96 degree range.

My thyroid tests normal.

I use a pillow filled with rice that I heat in the microwave. My hairdresser made it for me. I named it Willie after a blanket I had as a child.

This works wonderfully to warm up my hands and feet. Works good on back of neck for headaches too.

When it is hot outside I cannot stand it. THe cold weather really odesn't bother me as much.

Go figure.

Rhonda

Hi canbravelyme...

I haevnt noticed and INCREASE in pain or symptoms with the electric blanket. I have pain in my arms, fingers and feet pretty much all the time, but it doesnt increase with the electric blanket.

Although, I dont keep it on the highest setting. I usually have it in hte middle, just enough to warm me up.

I have had my thyroid, the entire panel not just TSH, and it is absolutely fine. I haev it checked twice a year because I had acute T3 Tyroiditis about three years ago, so they watch it closely...

So, I know my temp isnt my thyroid, right now anyway.

Feeling cold when others do not, is one of the first symptoms of hypothyroidism. Having a low body temperature, by conventional measuring, is certainly a sign.

Hypothyroidism is so common that it's rediculous. Lyme often attacks the thyroid. Blood tests are commonly read wrong, by doctors. Almost all blood labs are using the wrong blood ranges.

Having enough thyroid hormone in your body is crucial for Lyme recovery. Hypothyroidism affects every cell in your body from the top of the head, clear down to your big right toe. It is the flip switch to turn on the energy: it provides energy body wide including the immune system. We Lyme patients with hypothyroidism need to treat it optimally.

Here's a great book: Living Well With Hypothyroidism, 2005 edition, by Mary Shomon. You may find it at a library. She has an excellent search site at www.thyroid-info.com, which ties into her about.com site.

Hypothyroidism is rampant across the US. It makes every illness worse.

There are many issues with hypothyroidism.

It's a very big deal.

Daise

Hi
Yes I also have been diagnosed with Hashimotos disease (low thryoid) since 17 years old but it is under control. I had a ton of thryoid tests to verify that the synthroid level is correct. Actually they even lowerd it because the Lyme did something...personally I think it was losing 25 pounds from being sick. Anyway it is good to hav eyour TSH and t3 and t4 levels checked often with Lyme.

Yep, 93.8 frightening moment. I only checked it because I was FREEZING and i went to turn up thermostat and it was on 69 so I should not have been THAT cold!!!! So I check and BAM, threw me for a loop. Rechecked and it went up to 94.2 then climed back up to 95.7 and has been in the 95.6-96.9 range since....I dont like it for sure!

Huummm, finger on chin.

My Alternative doc gave me Armour thyroid and Lugols iodine this summer before my Lyme Western blot results were in.

He thought that my symptoms were thyroid related even though normal labs. I did not take any of the meds because I came back so positive for Lyme.

Now that Daise has raised a red flag, I'm wondering if this could also be a part of the picture.

CJ, can't even imagine! I freaked at a 95.2, but 93.4, I'm still shaking my head!

I had a temp of 93 once, back when I was very sick. Armour thyroid helped to boost my temps...and they were around 98, but now back to 97...and my hands are could again...which scares me a bit.

My temps were 96 for years. And I was always cold.
