I have to buy IV meds...(thanks to my insurance company) I cant seem to find them anywhere.. I have tried every local pharmacy, as well as calling the maker of the med.. to calling my infusion company and their pricing is insane.. Any ideas would be GREAT ... ( I even tried the Canadian pharmacy they dont have it..

Thanks again

Which med are you looking for?

IV bags and tubing are much cheaper from mailorder pharmacies than from infusion companies. Hubby has used Medhaus Pharmacy in Alabama and Apothecure in Dallas, Texas.

We have been able to order Primaxin and some other meds from Walgreens pharmacy. It has to be special ordered and then you mix the drugs yourself. Can get syringes and bottles of saline and heplock from Walgreens also. Much much cheaper than the prefilled syringes from the infusion companies.

You will need a script from your doc for each item -- tubing, IV bags, heplock, bacteriostatic saline, syringes and of course the meds.

If doing your own meds, be sure to ask the pharmacist how to mix your meds. Also need to know the shelf life -- room temperature or must you refrigerate the meds and how long will they keep.

I know it sounds complicated, but once you have done it a few times it gets easier. Just write out the steps involved. Even better if you have a spouse or friend who can help the first few times.

Good luck.

P.S. I usually mix the meds weaker than suggested (for example use 250 cc bags instead of 125 cc bags). This way it is much easier to do a slow drip if you do not have an IV pump. Infusing too quickly can cause a much greater herx reaction in my opinion.
